MTC 437 Max Challenge #7:
The Birds (omaggio:ah)
Due date: Wednesday, April 7, 2010
Objective:
Create a multi-sectional texture of bird sounds via sfplay~ which is automatically controlled via some clocking procedure.
Specific Requirements:
1. Your environment should have an approximate duration of 3-4 minutes. The environment will be controlled exclusively by a clock or metro which displays time and automatically controls all events without user intervention (There should be a start/stop toggle as the primary control plus an "initialize" button to reset the environment to the beginning).
2. The environment should progress from a very sparse texture to a dense texture near it's completion, the effect being a gradual increase in sonic activity.
3. The environment will consist of 10 sfplay~ patchers each assigned a specific bird sound (aiff). Each of these players should repeat their aiff file at a specific time interval, unique from the others (i.e. every 15 seconds or, randomly, every 13-17 seconds, etc.).
Starting each player at a different time is an efficient means to achieve #2 above.
4. Each repetition of a sfplay~ patcher should appear in a different extreme location in the 4-channel field (extreme = specifically one speaker) or pan from one extreme location to another during the course of the audio file.
5. Your interface must have a means of completely stopping all audio.
Format:
1. Patch labeled "The Birds" in a folder within your folder on the hard drive. This folder must also contain the soundfiles.
2. Patch must be user friendly and include instructions to the user as to how the patch works (from the perspective of the user).
Grading:
Will be based on the workability and economy of the patch.
