Heather E. Campbell, Ph.D.

    Heather E. Campbell is Associate Professor with tenure in the School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University.  She will be serving as the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Public Affairs Education from  January  2009 to December 2011.

    Heather's research interests are broadly based in policy analysis and evaluation, with the explicit goal of understanding how to improve policies and practices. She has particular interests in environmental justice, urban environmental policy analysis, and research on teaching.  Heather's published research has appeared in monographs and reports, book chapters, and peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Journal of Regional Science, Review of Policy Research, Policy Studies Journal, American Review of Public Administration, Communication Law and Policy, Journal of Public Affairs Education, and Journal of Social Work Education. An article she coauthored with with Karen Gerdes and Sue Steiner received the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) award for the best article in the Journal of Public Affairs Education.

    From 2002 to 2004 Heather served as Director of the School's MPA program, followed by three years as Director of Graduate Studies for the School. Heather earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of California at San Diego (Revelle College) and an MPhil and PhD from Carnegie Mellon's Heinz School. Before joining ASU, she worked at SAI (Science Applications, Inc.) performing requirements analysis for government contracts, and held teaching and research positions at Carnegie Mellon University.
