Interests

Outside her academic interests, Heather is interested in boogie-boarding, listening to jazz, singing almost anything, reading "cozy" mysteries, attending opera, and food.  To enjoy these pursuits, she

-is lucky enough to have parents who live in San Diego,

-owns jazz CDs and listens to her own jazz station on Pandora,

-sings with the Tempe Community Chorus, (we're always looking for people who love to sing),

-lives a block from the city library (yes, it's not an accident!) and still is a frequent buyer at Borders,

-has season tickets to the Arizona Opera, and

-is always interested to try new restaurants and new foods.

Recently Heather bought purslane at the Downtown Phoenix Public Market which is now open on Wednesdays from 4-8 to accommodate ASU folks who don't live downtown yet.  Purslane grows very well in AZ--kind of like a weed--and is nutritious.  She cooked it by chopping it in 1-inch pieces along the stem, boiling it for 5 minutes, and tossing it with olive oil vinegar, and the whole family enjoyed it.
