General Tempe Information:

In the evenings many of the conference participants may wish to take in Mill Avenue, a nightlife area located adjacent to the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel and the ASU campus. The weather in Tempe in September is warm -- expect sunshine with daytime highs around 100°F and evening temperatures around 75°F. There are many recreational activities in the Phoenix metro area if you wish to extend your stay. Arizona is known for its championship golf courses, many of which offer a reduced rate during the summer. ASU's own championship course, Karsten, was designed by Pete Dye and it combines the look and feel of a links and stadium course. Just 4 miles from ASU is the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Gardens. The zoo features 1,300 animals while the gardens contain over 10,000 plants. There are plenty of trails for hiking or mountain biking (if you need a guide book let me know) around the Phoenix area.

Transportation:

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport serves the Phoenix metro area and is located only minutes away from Tempe. The airport is served by 17 major airlines and three commuter airlines (click here for a list).

If you will be renting a car, click April 1, 2005agencies that have car rental counters in the baggage claim area of all terminals at Sky Harbor. Note: the Tempe Mission Palms provides a free shuttle service to and from Sky Harbor.

For those conference guests staying away from the main conference hotel, Tempe offers a free local area shuttle service called the Flash (weekdays) and Flash lite (weekends). This service runs every 10-15 minutes.
