Computers and Overclocking

I first got into overclocking with my old Quantex PII 300. My last project was a 500 MHz AMD Athlon which is still running daily at 700. I have never gotten it to post past 700, but I think it might be the stock Compaq motherboard holding it back. I used a Maximzer gfd to oc it.

My current project, is based on an Athlon XP2100 that I won at the Phoenix AMD EPP2. Here are the parts:

Asus A7N8X nForce2 deluxe motherboard
2 (for dual ddr) sticks of Corsair XMS 256mb 3500C2 DDR memory
Yellow CHIEFTEC Server Chassis (aluminum w/window)
Western Digital "Special Edition" 80GB hard drive W/Soyo Serial adapter
Maxtor Diamond Max 45, 45GB hard drive W/Soyo Serial adapter
Sapphire Technology RADEON™ 9700 PRO
ThermalTake Volcano 7+ heatsink (I wanted to go H2O but $$$)
LITE-ON LTD-166S16X DVD ROM Drive
TDK VeloCD 48x16x48x CDRW
Antec 480W Power Supply TRUE480 W/Blue LED

I also bought a 120mm fan to put in the window.

I bought all the parts from Newegg, Googlegear and CoolerGuys. I highly recommend them. In fact, I had my original DVD drive die on me and Newegg refunded the money without any question.

The XP2100 is not a good overclocker and it is harder than other Athlons to unlock. So, right now I am running at 140 mhz locked in at the 13 multiplier. It ran in Windows at 143 but it would lock a minute or so after entering SETI. Waiting for Barton...

If you are looking to build an nForce chipset based computer, I recommend these sites and their forums for information and support:

What do you do with all this computer power you ask? Well, you can play games and with your computer's spare cpu cycles you can help fold proteins or analyze radio telescope information.
