Orin E. "Doc" Burns, 64, retired Huntington lumberman, died Saturday night in a Huntington hospital after a long illness. Mr. Burns had been in failing health for
about 10 years but his condition did not become serious until about six weeks ago. He was a resident of the Fifth Avenue Hotel.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am tomorrow at the Steele Funeral Home with the Rev. C.J. Hines of Baltimore officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery with rites conducted by Huntington Lodge 313, BPO Elks, of which Mr. Burns was a member.
Founder and former president and general manager of the Northeast Lumber Company, now liquidated, Mr. Burns was the son of the late Dr. Alexander C.Burns, a physician and Diana Templeton Burns. He was born in Lawrence Co. Ohio and came to Huntington at an early age with his parents. He has been a resident of this city since that time.
Mr. Burns was a candidate for the Republican nomination for the House of Delegates in the primary election last May, but because of impaired health he was unable to conduct an active campaign.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. B. Beirne Burns, five sons, Orin E. Burns Jr.of New York City, Sgt. Sam O. Burns, U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in the South Pacific, Max O. Burns of Huntington, Robert Burns of Baltimore, Md., Lt. Don Burns, U.S. Army stationed in England; three daughters, Joan Burns of Huntington, Charlotte Dugan and Betty Gardner and two sisters, Adrienne Hines of Baltimore and Anice Hicks of Victoria Texas.
