Class Time: Thurs. 10:30 - 11:45 AM
Location: PS A-331
Website: http://www.public.asu.edu/~iangould/498/498.html

All first year students who have not passed the interview test, or have received a score of less than 55 on the Speak test must register for this course.

This class is designed to help you to become qualified to become a TA here at ASU. The most important way in which your English will improve is by practicing every day. You can certainly NOT rely upon this class alone to help you.

You will receive 3 hours of credit for this class, it cannot be repeated. Because you get credit, you will also receive a grade. There are no exams or tests in this class (except the obvious one!), and so grades are based upon completion of assignments. You will have to work hard to earn an A in this class.

The class consists of the following assignments:
1. You must attend the CHM 498 Class every week, Tues. and Thurs. 10:30 AM in PS A-331, and participate in the language practice and exercises.
2. Homework will be distributed every week, you must return each homework in class the following week on TUESDAY (no later), appropriately signed by your helper where relevant (see instructions on the homework package).
3. You must record and email to Dr. Gould Speech exercises that will be posted on the web site as appropriate.

Grades will be assigned on the basis of the following:

Grade A : Missed no more than 2 assignments
Grade B : Missed no more than 4 assignments
Grade C : Missed no more than 6 assignments
Grade D : Missed no more than 8 assignments
Grade E : Missed more than 8 assignments

Our exercises will be aimed at giving you practice in pronunciation, the SPEAK test and teaching.
