*Cứ/cứ
việc (go right ahead) + VERB
a.
Cứ is used before a verb to express a request, a command, or an encouragement:
-Em
cứ ăn cơm trước, đừng đợi anh.
-Go
ahead and eat first, do not wait for me.
-Các
anh chị cứ tự nhiên đi xem căn hộ.
-Please
go ahead and take a look at the apartment.
b. Cứ
việc is more often used in the imperative form. It is more emphatic than cứ:
-Cứ việc đi
chơi đi.
-Go ahead and go out.
c. Cứ + time expression or a numeral means
every so often, such as such an event gets repeated:
-Cứ một
tuần thì họ đi ăn hiệu một lần.
-Every week they eat out once.
-Cứ hai người ở chung một phòng.
-Every two people share a room.

|
*Different meanings of mà:
*mà is
placed between two verbs. The second verb expresses the purpose, as in:
-Bật ti vi lên mà xem!
-Turn on the TV [in order] to watch.
-Cứ thuê xe mà đi tham quan.
-Go ahead and rent a car so that you
can visit places. |

mà (conj.)
|
*mà indicates contradiction and introduces an element of surprise:
-Cô Vi yêu anh quá mà sao
anh không yêu cô?
-Vi loves you very much yet how come you do not love
her?
-Chiếc xe này rẻ mà chạy
tốt lắm.
-This car is cheap yet runs very well. |

*mà also expresses a cause as in:
-Vì bị cảm nặng mà ông Vũ nghỉ
làm 1 tuần rồi.
-Mr. Vũ had bad cold, so he was off work for 1 week.
-Vì
bận mà tôi không đi chơi được.
-I am busy, so I cannot go out.

*mà as a relative pronoun. Relative clauses in Vietnamese are usually unmarked,
but for clarity and more emphasis, mà is used as in:
-Người đàn bà mà tôi mới chào là cô giáo của tôi.
-The woman whom I just greeted is my teacher.
-Ngày mà bạn gái tôi lấy chồng tôi say rượu suốt đêm.
-The day that my girlfriend got married I was drunk all night.

*mà as final particle can be used to contradict or to express the speaker's annoyance with the listener who fails to understand a previously emphazied
point, as in:
-Chị không thích làm việc này à? -Don't you like this job?
-Tôi thích lắm mà! -I like it very much! [I already told you.]
