Translation number 12 (week twelve):

In the U.S.A., France, England, and other capitalist countries, the works of the so-called “Soviet literary underground” have received wide circulation.   The powers of imperialist reaction are seeking out harmful methods in the areas of ideology in which to compromise the Soviet people, our government, the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and its politics.   To these ends, they make us of the anti-Soviet slanderous works of the underground literati who pass off injurious propaganda as telling the truth about the Soviet Union. To these compositions belong the stories “The Trial Begins” and “Liubimov” and the article “On Socialist Realism” of Abram Tertz, and also the works of Nikolai Arzhak, “This is Moscow Speaking,” “Hands,” “Atonement,” and the “Man from MINAP.”   It has been established by the organs of state security (the KGB) that lurking behind the pseudonym of Abram Tertz is Andrei Donatovich Siniavskii, and behind the pseudonym of Nikolai Arzhak—Iulii Markovich Daniel.
