OATMEAL CHIP COOKIES

This recipe was blatantly stolen from a Quaker Oats packet. Most herbivores wouldn't give it house room. What can I say? It's one of my few addictions. I have two a night with a bottle of Jack Daniels.

1 cup (1/2 lb) butter, softened 1 1/4 cups firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 eggs
2 tbsps milk 2 tsps vanilla
1 3/4 cups all purpose (plain) flour 1 1/2 tsps baking soda
1/2 tsp salt (optional) 2 1/2 cups uncooked oatmeal (rolled oats)
12 oz package semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 cup coarsely chopped nuts (optional)

METHOD

Heat oven to 375 deg. F. Beat butter and sugars until creamy. Add eggs, milk and vanilla; beat well. Add combined flour, baking soda and salt; mix well. Stir in oats, chocolate morsels and nuts; mix well. Drop by rounded measuring tablespoonfuls on to ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 9-10 minutes for a chewy cookie or 12-13 minutes for a crisper cookie (I use 11 minutes). Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet. Remove carefully with a spatula and cool completely on wax paper sheets. Open freeze and bag in batches if required.
