Student Projects

David Welch is a first year bioengineering PhD student currently doing a rotation in my lab. His areas of expertise are biomaterials and modeling systems from the molecular to cellular to physiological level. He is currently studying transport phenomena and tissue engineering. His project is "Methodologies for Culture of 3T3 Cells on Non-Planar MEMS Surfaces".

Sahana Sen is a first year masters student in electrical engineering. Her areas of expertise are VLSI and microfabrication. Her current project is "Multi-Physics Finite Element Analysis of Microfluidic Structures". She will begin fabrication of structures based on this analysis in the summer.

Karthik Krishnamoorthy is a first year masters student in electrical engineering. His area of expertise is analog and mixed-mode integrated circuit design. His current project is "Self-Assembly for 3D Electrical Interfaces".

These are the student projects that I directed at Johns Hopkins University.

I have had the pleasure of directing research projects for over a dozen students at The Johns Hopkins University. Several of the research projects involved working in the Whitaker Institute Lithography and Fabrication Facility. Each of the projects was an extremely enjoyable and successful learning experience for both the students and me.

We did find some time for a little fun, such as the PDMS-inspired cookie break.

The PDMS self-assembly group enjoyed hexagonal cookies with the hope that they would inspire fabrication and self-assembly of hexagonal PDMS structures. Cookie pictured next to our first attempt at a photo-initiator technique for fabricating PDMS elements for self-assembly. Abby Witzmann baked the cookies; they were delicious!
