STANDING AND AD HOC COMMITTEES
STANDING COMMITTEES
Nominating Committee
Chaired by: Past President
Membership: As determined by chair and/or Executive Committee.
Purpose: To ensure a full roster of officers (new, returning, changing) on the
Executive Committee for the following year.
To recruit new officers to the AETA Executive Board.
To create and communicate a slate of officers and elections.
Membership Committee
Chaired by: Executive Secretary
Membership: Regional Area Directors, University Directors, Special Area
Liaisons, and others as determined by chair and/or committee.
Purpose: To recruit and retain members to the organization.
To encourage members to become involved in various committees
or programs of the organization.
To involve people of color in all aspects of the organization.
Professional Development Committee
Chaired by: An Appointed Regional Area Director
Membership: Regional Area Directors, University Directors, Special Area
Liaisons, and others as determined by chair and/or committee.
Purpose: To improve the teaching and learning of English language arts in
Arizona.
To provide opportunities for professional development in the areas
of ideology, curriculum, pedagogy, and diversity to
Arizona's teachers and students of English language arts.
Political Advocacy Committee
Chaired by: NCTE SLATE Liaison
Membership: As determined by Executive Committee and committee chair.
Purpose: To influence public attitudes and policy decisions about issues
affecting teachers and students of English language in the
state.
To implement and publicize policies adopted by AETA.
To increase public understanding of the aims and accomplishments
of teachers of English language arts and to gain support for
Sound teaching practice.
AD HOC COMMITTEES
Governance Committee
Chaired by: Vice President
Membership: Invited by President.
Purpose: To review AETA's Constitution and By-Laws and make
recommendations for changes to the Executive Committee.
To investigate pros and cons of two-year terms of officer for
Executive Board.
To create an AETA Officer Handbook and Conference Planning
Guide.
NCTE Fund Committee
Chaired by: Appointee by the President.
Membership: Invited by President:
Purpose: To investigate kinds of mentoring programs for junior or high
school students who show potential as a future teacher.
To devise means for recruiting people of color into the profession.
