Ideas and Content

  reflective)

• Inferences and conclusions are supported by text, outside works, or

  personal experience

• Relate own ideas to supporting details in a clear and logical manner

• Support is appropriate for the format of the original work

Organization

• Contains introduction, body, and conclusion

• Introduction contains thesis statement

• Conclusion restates position

• Follows a logical pattern- chronology, spacial, etc.

Word Choice

• Effective use of paraphrasing and quotes

• Language that effectively captures mood and tone of original work

• Fresh, original expression

Voice

• An effective level of closeness or distance from the audience

• Distinction between author’s tone, mood, attitudes, etc. and that of writer

Sentence Fluency

• Sentence structure reflects writer, not author
