Pill-Taking-Society

Stardom life – pill taking life?

What do Britney Spears and Eminem have in common?
There both were addicted to subscribe pills and they are dealing with it in their songs. For those two their addiction ended with lyric material. For Heath Ledger it ended deadly.
Why do stars start taking those in first place? Might be that their profession is hard to handle for their psyche.
Psycho pharmaceuticals are considered as stress relievers and mood elevators. It seems like people forget that those are addictive drugs and can lead to death.

Use of Ritalin has quintupled

In the year 1993 to 2002 the use of psycho pharmaceuticals to “cure” hyperactive kids in the US shows that the use of Ritalin has quintupled. From 1997 to 2005 the use of antidepressants has doubled. The number of psychotherapies diminishes though: compared to 1996, 44, 4% of the patients have consulted a psychiatrist, 2005 it reduced itself to 28, 9%. In the 80’s the Americans have been fans of “the conversation” but nowadays taking a pill seems easier and, of course, less expensive.
The American health insurance companies compensated the cost of the psycho pharmaceuticals but not for the psychotherapies. Another fact is that the success rate of the psycho pharmaceuticals is much higher than the expensive and time consuming meeting with a doctor. This explains partly, why the psycho pharmaceuticals are so popular. Every doctor uses them to help patients suffering from depression, schizophrenia and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Even in some acute cases, where the patient puts himself and others in danger, every doctor would use first psycho pharmaceuticals to prevent everybody from harm. Some doctors claim that antidepressants are not addictive, are not changing the personality and are not stimulants.

Choosing the right therapy

If a patient suffers from heavy depressions the best way to treat him would be a combination out of psycho pharmaceuticals and therapy.
Meanwhile the psychotherapist tries to find the cause of the sickness and help to cure them, the drug helps to get rid of the symptoms, changes the mood and get rid of the worries. The psychotherapy has now different tools to cure. Starting from music therapy to family therapy but only a few could prove the scientific curativeness.
The cognitive behavioural therapy and the interpersonal therapy are the only two forms that can help verifiably to cure depression. In some cases, in which the patient suffers from heavy depressions, the “talk” with the shrink is the best method to help.
The cognitive behavioural therapy put the daily routine in the centre of attraction. Best case scenario is if there is always enough time for leisure. Negative thinking will be analysed in order to completely stop them. The therapy is in general action-orientated and pragmatic. The interpersonal therapy is more common with elderly people whose mood is negative cause of human conflicts. The therapist asks why the patient is an outlaw, a scapegoat or something like that, in order to solve the problem.

Freudian psychoanalysis

Nowadays the Freudian psychoanalysis has been drastically ramified and developed. The difficulties that the doctors are facing are that the patient has to realize his problem and cure himself. The doctors can only lead the conversation into a certain direction and this can take a while. Therefore are the psychiatrists are under high pressure in order to deliver success and diminish the symptoms are much as possible.
In many cases the pragmatic behavioural therapy is the best way to help.
But this method doesn’t consider deep buried incidents in the soul, the lost of a dear person or an abortion. This would only be touched be the Freudian in-depth analysis. Until today no other analysis can be compared with its success rate. The goal is to understand why certain behaviour is caused by certain feeling and how to avoid both of them.
The method of the conversation ort he treatment is only one factor. The same importance has the chemistry between the patient and the doctor. The success rate is very depending on that. If the patient can not trust the therapist or doesn’t feel comfortable enough to reveal his inner feelings and his deepest secrets then the therapy is useless.
The European health insurance companies cover a certain amount of therapies. It’s always better to talk to someone instead of taking medication.
