Discriminant Exponent Calculator
If you fix a degree n and a prime p, we can
consider all number fields of degree n and their field
discriminants. In the factorization of these discriminants, we
consider the exponent of the prime p. This calculator
determines the maximum such exponent. Just enter values for the
degree and the prime, and hit the Compute button.
On one hand, the compuations carried out by this calculator are
trivial. On the other hand, I have had to compute such numbers
pretty frequently over the past few years in developing this web
site. I would have happily traded the inverse hyperbolic tangent
key on my pocket calculator for a maximum discriminant exponent
key.
