Candidate Speeches:

PRESIDENT

Amanda O'Neal

Hello,

For those of you who do not know me I am Amanda, the current treasurer. I am a junior this year majoring in Political Science and getting a minor in Psychology. I joined PAD in fall of 2008. When I first joined PAD I knew I wanted to be an active member and become highly involved in any way I could. I have attended a vast majority of all the events organized by Phi Alpha Delta both social and professional as well as all of our meetings. My first year in PAD I worked very close with the officers as Initiation Chair planning fall 2008's initiation and helped plan the spring 2009 initiation. I also had the privilege of helping moderate for the ASU law student panel that we had last spring. I worked closely with the other officers this past month planning our California trip that we recently took. Being treasurer has helped me understand how the logistics of PAD work and what we can change to be even better. Next year I will be a Senior and I only have 12 credits a semester which gives me more than enough free time to focus on PAD. As President, I really want the focus for next year to be about bringing our fraternity closer together. I know it is hard for everyone to come to every event so I want to make sure there are an ample amount of opportunities for everyone to be able to participate. I want to have at least 1 social event a month and at least 3 community service events a semester. I would also like to plan another group trip like our California one because I really think that it was a great bonding experience. I also want to take a poll before we set our meetings for next year to see which day and time works best for the majority of the members in order to increase the attendance of meetings, because I know that was a concern this year. I want to make use of our recourses such as the Facebook page, tabling, the pre-law listserv, and getting more merchandise for PAD in order to get our name out there to gain new members. This fraternity is more then just a resume builder it is a network of future colleagues, life changing experiences, and good memories that I know I will remember for the rest of my life and be honored that I was a part of making PAD what it is and what it will be. Thank you Amanda O'Neal

Asha Vora

Greetings Phi Alpha Delta members! My sincere apologies for not being able to be there today, but Mock Trial Nationals took place in Memphis, Tennessee and it was crucial for me to be there. As you all know, I am running for President. This passed year was my third year in Phi Alpha Delta and I served as Vice President. I am an upcoming senior also involved in mock trial, although I don't plan on continuing that next year, which will actually allow me to dedicate more time to Phi Alpha Delta. I am a clerical assistant for the Federal Public Defenders and that has already been beneficial for PAD by providing speakers, etc. If elected President I plan on continuing to connect ASU's PAD chapter to the volunteer and legal community and providing information and social outlets for our members. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experiences with PAD thus far and hope that I can help to create and manage the same environment that has brought me so much joy and information. That being said, vote for me! If ya'll have any questions, please feel free to email me at ashavora@gmail.com

VICE PRESIDENT

Will Babb

My name is William Babb and I joined PAD officially in fall 2009, I am a double major in Business Management and Communications and I have served as an officer in several clubs around campus including my social fraternity. I believe the skills that I have acquired in both my majors and serving as an officer make me the perfect candidate for the Vice President position. My primary goal as VP would be to increase membership as well as create strong ties between all PAD members. I would create a family atmosphere by creating intramural sports team and have social events such as BBQ's to give are membership more activities to network and socialize with other PAD members. I believe a vital aspect that has been missing from PAD is alumni involvement, I would work to increase are connections with past alumni so that PAD members have connections in the real world after college. I believe that, is one of the main reasons people join a professional fraternity and that is something that we have not done as of yet. I would also like to find fun and exciting community service events so that more PAD members attend those events which would further are fraternal bonds. I believe the skills that I have acquired as being a Management and Communication major fit this position well. As a management major I have learned to manage a group of people effectively to achieve goals so I believe whatever new goal we create I will be able to guide are membership to the ultimate achievement of that goal. As a communication major I have learned to effectively communication those goals to other individuals. I believe these two skills alone compliment each other after all you can not effectively manage if you can not effectively communicate the objective. Thank you

Kimberly Condoulis

Hello Phi Alpha Delta members. My name is Kim Condoulis and I am running for the position of Vice President of PAD. I first joined Phi Alpha Delta a year and a half ago and was instantly in love with what we stood for. I was as involved as possible the first two semesters, and while family responsibilities kept me away this last semester, I feel all the more motivated to reconnect with Phi Alpha Delta. I know the responsibilities that will be placed upon me should I be voted Vice President and feel more than up to the task. I have held a variety of executive positions in different organizations on campus already. I am Secretary of the Barrett Leadership and Service team and the Executive Chief of Staff for the ASU Undie Run Coalition. Through these positions I have learned valuable skills of communication, collaboration and honesty. I know how to organize my thoughts and notes and deliver them to any intended audience of any size. I've had to communicate with sponsors, school officials, members of executive boards and my fellow students. I feel like these abilities would only help me and Phi Alpha Delta. I also will be part of Project Excellence next semester, and through it be taking an actual graduate level law class at the Sandra Day O'Connor college of law. I feel like the experiences I gain through this class and interactions at law school will be valuable for the rest of PAD. I have done much research on Law schools this semester and learned a lot about opportunities for undergraduate students to prepare themselves for law school that most students don't know exist. As Vice President, I would be most able to share these pieces of information with the largest audience. I am devoted to law and Phi Alpha Delta and feel that I would only bring another great entity to the PAD executive board next year should I be elected. Thank you for your time.

Garret Lievens

Hello,

Let me start off by apologizing, because unfortunately, I am unable to attend today due to a scheduling conflict at work. Those of you who don't know me, my name is Garret Lievens (Pronounced Lee-vins) and I have been a member of Phi Alpha Delta since Fall of 2009. In my time with PAD, I have seen many successes and opportunities within the organization. Today, for the sake of time, I will focus on the limited number of opportunities that I would like to see changed in the near future. Today... is a perfect example of one of the issues that I would like to work on in the upcoming year as the Phi Alpha Delta Vice President. The unfortunate part of organizing events for a group of pre-law students, is that we are some of busiest people around. From Mock Trial obligations, to writing for newspapers and everything in between, the drive of every member in Phi Alpha Delta to succeed is a constant struggle between priorities. I am not asking that you re-prioritize, but more offering that we can provide a level of flexibility in our planning efforts, in order to include the maximum number of people in our meetings and events. I plan to make every effort not to dictate when events will be held, but ask when is best for you the members. My next goal is to increase membership. Although, word of mouth can be a powerful tool, we need to step up to be the kind of organization at ASU that is well known and has a presence. I would like to increase tabling efforts next year and get the word out about the great things we do here at Phi Alpha Delta. As Vice President, one of my responsibilities is to be Kaplan and Princeton liaison. I don't know how many of you have bought or are planning to use a LSAT prep class, but they are not cheap. I have made some great connections within Kaplan this year and I plan to use those in order to get PAD members more than the 10% current discount. My goal would be to increase that discount to at least 15% next year. Now I know that this will be difficult and I can't promise anything, but I will try my hardest. At the very least, I would like to get some regular meetings throughout the semester, with LSAT prep instructors to help us study for the LSAT. And finally... We have shirts! But I think we can do more. I plan to not only make shirts available again next year, but also I would like to make hoodies and possibly other items available. In closing, if you think that increasing attendance and membership, cheaper LSAT prep, and more PAD gear are important issues to you, vote for Garret for Phi Alpha Delta Vice President, so I can make these and other improvements happen. Thank you for your time today, and I look forward to meeting all of you, so that you can put a face to the speech.

TREASURER

Lauren Eudy

My name is Lauren Eudy, and I am running for the position of treasurer. I am currently a junior and will be graduating next May. My major is Psychology, and after graduation I plan on attending law school. If elected to treasurer I look forward to the responsibility of keeping an accurate record of our funds, making sure our fraternity stays on track financially. I believe I am qualified to do so because I am highly organized, and pay attention to detail. These are two qualities I believe will keep Phi Alpha Delta's finances in line. I would really like to take more responsibility in our fraternity, and I feel being elected as treasurer is the kind of job that I can succeed at. I have enjoyed participating in our volunteer projects this past year and feel we could hold a variety of fundraising events to help raise money for Phi Alpha Delta to increase funds for activities that would be beneficial to our members. That money would help us go on field trips to tour law schools, member social gatherings, and any other extra activities that would be fun and help to increase the social aspect of our fraternity. Members would not have to spend money out of their pockets to attend, and this would help to increase our attendance at these events. I look forward to next year, and what Phi Alpha Delta will have planned, and I hope that I will be able to contribute to our future. I have enjoyed my first year as a member, and hope that next year I will be able to make a big contribution through my treasurer duties. Thank you!

David Hughes

Good afternoon. My name is David Hughes, I'm majoring in economics through the W.P. Carey school of business, and have been a member of Phi Alpha Delta since the Spring of 2009. One of the great things about PAD is its diversified membership. We have students with majors from philosophy, political science, and business, to foreign language, and liberal arts. However, we are all united by the common denominator that is our tenacity and ambition put forth to achieving an education in the United States Legal system. Your membership in our fraternity displays that you take your academic lives very seriously and put a lot of weight on the value of your futures. I share this spirit with you. I come before you today to run for the position of Treasurer for a number of reasons. I think that as a fraternity, a sufficient nexus between providing speakers, offering services, and fostering a feeling of solidarity and camaraderie must be met. I will make sure that all of the aforementioned services will be provided to our members through efficiently and responsibly managing our budget, and making sure that we get the quality services that we need unencumbered by finances. As a business major, I am highly educated in the workings of money, and know how to responsibly and realistically budget for expenditures that will provide us with what we need most to ensure success in our future careers as students of the law. Also, I currently do the accounting for my internship at World of Work Incorporated, a firm that sells career aptitude tests to unemployment centers around the nation and overseas. My experience with PAD this far has been fun, rewarding, and has created lasting friendships. With your vote, I will make it my personal goal to work with the other members of the executive board to make sure that your experience is as great as mine has been. Thank you.
