Tetrahedral D are smaller than octahedral; as a result, there are no ligands that are known to provide a sufficiently strong field to give a low spin complex.
All known tetrahedral complexes are high spin.
Thus, crystal field theory can explain color and magnetism, as well as many other properties we will not discuss.
