Brain and behavior

Researchers in our group work on conceptual, methodological, and ethical issues in brain and behavioral research. For instance, in stem cell biology, Parkinson's Disease is of special interest (see the Translation Project and the Model Systems Strategic Research Network). Additionally, JSR has a longstanding interest in etiology, diagnosis, and classification of mental illness, especially schizophrenia.

Exemplary research questions include:

  • what methods can be used (and to what effect) in unpacking the development of complex behavioral traits?

  • how should genetic and neuroscientific approaches to the brain be integrated?

  • what are the ethical and social dimensions of emerging brain science, and how should they be addressed?

  • what factors should determine psychiatric nosology?

  • what are the most promising developments in neural interface design, and what ethical and social issues do they raise?
