Nanotechnology

Our group has an emerging interest in nanotechnology: science and engineering at atomic, molecular, or macromolecular levels, approximately in the range of 1-100 nanometers. One nanometer is one billionth of a meter – a human hair is about 60000-120000 nanometers thick. According to the National Nanotechnology Initiative, the scale-dependent properties of nano-sized matter may be exploited to produce novel structures and to produce new possibilities for material intervention in the world.

We are especially interested in the ethical and social aspects of promises made about the convergence of nanotechnology with other technologies robotics, informatics, and genetics to improve human performance and enhance social outcomes.

JSR co-leads the Human identity, enhancement, and biology theme of the new Center for Nanotechnology in Society at ASU. We welcome inquiries from under-graduate and graduate students and postdocs interested in research opportunities with the CNS-ASU.
