About the Author
My family was a rather mobile one after I turned 10 years of age. Since then, I
have lived in three corners of this country in major metropolitan areas. The one constant
trend I kept noticing, among others, in each of those cities was the increasing smog. Of
the six locations where I have lived, Los Angeles was the worst. When we moved here to
Phoenix six years ago, the valley was having its share of problems with high levels of
smog. However, then, it was mostly attributed to "Snow Birds" living here during the
winter months and the levels dropped sharply in the summer months. Today, the number
and types of particulates in our smog rivals Los Angeles. In writing the following
piece(s), I was given an opportunity to see statistically what I have known to be true
observationally since my family and I began moving from city to city. It was an eye
opening experience!
