Workshop
#1
Background of Issues and Arguments for Paper #1
PART
I (for the respondent, 15 minutes) :
For this
workshop, focus on the background that the writer lays out in her draft.
Respond to
her by reading her draft on the background and then answering these questions
(try to write a paragraph each):
- When and where did
the issue begin?
- What are its causes?
- What are its effects?
If you are unable to develop
a response to any one of the questions from the material the writer provides,
please tell the writer what you need to know. If you like, tell the writer
what YOU know about the answer to the question.
PART
II (for the writer, 20 minutes):
The next
step is to investigate the possible arguments for resolution of the disagreements
about the conjectures. Write your responses to these questions:
- Compare the pictures
painted (depicted) by the various parties to the argument. Where do they
agree?
- Where do they differ?
- How could these
differences be resolved?
- What losses would
accrue to those whose conjecture is not accepted?
- What gains would
accrue to those whose conjecture is accepted?
