"Writing (in) Cyberspace"
Using WS-FTP to Send Your Document to Your
AFS Space
- Start the WS-FTP program from your "Start" menu.
- In the dialogue box that appears when you start WS-FTP,
type"general.asu.edu" (no quotes) in the first two boxes.
(I think you only need to do it in one of the boxes, but I can never remember
which one, so I always do it in both.)
- Leave Host Type as"Automatic Detect."
- Type your ASURITE user ID in the user ID box.
- Type your ASURITE password in the password box.
- Click OK. WS-FTP will show you two scroll windows.
The left one will show you what's in your download directory in WS-FTP on
your hard drive and the right window will show you what's in your AFS space.
- In the left-hand window, scroll down until you see
the A drive. Double click on it and the window should then show you
what files are on your diskette.
- Find your file and highlight it with a single click.
- In between the two windows, click on the arrow that
points from your"A" drive files to your AFS space. The file
will transfer almost instantly.
To send the file to me via e-mail, compose an e-mail message to me as you normally
would in Pine, but in the header, space down to the"Attchmnt" line
and then hit"Ctrl-T" on your keyboard to access the files in your
AFS space. Use the cursor keys to move the highlight bar to the filename
of your essay and hit"S" for select. The file will be attached
to your e-mail and will be shown as an attachment in the "Attchmnt" line of
the header for your e-mail. Send the e-mail as you would normally (i.e.,
"Ctrl-X").
