Barbara's Family Object

Family Migration Object

The family migration object that I have chosen is a recipe for Pozole. Pozole is a type of soup made with hominy, pork or beef meat, onions, oregano, garlic and red chili powder. It is very good topped with radishes, cabbage or lettuce, fresh onions, oregano, and a lot of lime juice. This recipe was passed down from my great-grandmother to my mother. This dish is very traditional for my family. We enjoy eating this dish at family gatherings and especially during the holidays.

My mom shared with me that when she was growing up in Mexico they were very poor, and this dish was very inexpensive to make. It could also be made to last for several days. She said sometimes, they were so poor that they only used the meat bones, from previous meal, to add meat flavor to the soup.
