This paper describes the Current version of Cirrus. (An eartier version is reported in VanLehn and Garlick, 1987.) The first section describes the theory of problem solving that Cirrus assumes. Although the theory is quite standard and noncommittal, it is nonetheless the source of most of Cirrus' limitations as an analytical tool. The second section describes how Cirrus works. The third section discusses Cirrus' analysis of protocolS from two different task domains. The last section discusses our plans for removing. the Current restrictions imposed by Cirrus' theory of problem solving.
