THEN AND NOW: SUCCESS, LIMITATIONS, AND VISUALIZATING THE FUTURE OF ANCIENT DNA STUDIES OF TUBERCULOSIS IN NORTH AMERICA

JODI LYNN BARTA - McMaster Ancient DNA Center, Department of Anthropology, McMaster University

Abstract: This talk will outline some personal stories of success with ancient DNA analysis of tuberculosis from skeletal remains while paying close attention to some lessons learned about inherent methodological limitations.  Included is a discussion of future prospects for investigative analyses of TB in North American using ancient DNA techniques and how half the battle might just be asking the right questions.
