MP's novella, Phoenix was published in Italian translation during 2007, by Palomar Press, Italy, as part of a series on North American literature, "La Vigna Nascosta." Other authors in the series include John Nichols, Lynne Sharon Schwartz, and Rudolfo Anaya.
MP's short fiction piece "Croquet" was published July 1, 2008 in Web Conjunctions, the online publication of Conjunctions, Bard College, Bradford Morrow, editor.
MP appeared as an invited guest in July/August 2008 online literary magazine Fanzine's "Talk Show" # 15 with Jaime Clarke, host. MP "visited" along with Kevin Brockmeier, Sloane Crosley, Sophie Gee, and Samantha Hunt.
On October 20, 2007, at an alumni event, "In the Spirit of Mater," in Atherton, California, MP was the Keynote Speaker and one of three alumni honored by her alma mater, Sacred Heart Schools, as an example of "a Sacred Heart graduate living the values of Mater and making a conscious choice to help others who are less fortunate." Following mass and an alumni luncheon, she gave a presentation on her work with the Daywalka Foundation's Kalam Margins Write project in Kolkata, India.
MP's essay, "Desirelessness" appeared in the anthology, Desire: Women Write About Wanting, published November 1, 2007, by Seal Press: Groundbreaking Books by Women for Women, an imprint of
Avalon Publishing Group, Inc. editor Lisa Solod Warren, 2007. Other contributing writers are Erica Jong, Joyce Maynard, Janice Eidus, and Myra Goldberg.
MP was a featured reader at the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction Gala at Washington D.C.'s Folger Shakespeare Library, Sept. 24, 2007, along with other writers, including Amy Bloom, Alan Gurganus, Chris Abani, Amy Hempl, Richard Rodriguez, and Walter Kirn. She also participated in PEN/Faulkner's Writers in Schools outreach program.
MP's interview of Sahar Romani and Bishan Samadaar, co-founders of Kalam: Margins Write, appeared in the "Witness"section of Hayden's Ferry Review 39 (Fall/Winter 2007).
