Barbara Brown includes in her book the following information that
was provided by Florence Huff. I quote.
Robert Gillenwaters - Pvt. Co. "D", 8th Reg't. Iowa Calvary, age
20 Yrs.
joined for duty and enrolled; 29 July 1863, Burlington, Iowa.
Died, 26 September 1864, in Hospital at Franklin, Tenn. of Cronic
Diarehear, consumption.
Burial: at Franklin, Tenn. Robert Gillenwaters died unmarried
with no children, listed as a farmer.
Mary H. Lee, application for her son, Robert Gillenwater's
Pension.
STATE OF IOWA, SOUNTY OF DES MOINES
On the 16th of Dec. 1864, Mary H. Lee personally appeared before
Judge (name not clear enough to read) of the County Court and State.
Mary H. Lee resident of Rossuth in County of Des Moines, State of
Iowa, age 62 years. That she is the widow of 1st Robert W.
Gillenwaters, who died 28 Nov. 1849, and second, now a widow of
William Lee, who died 28 Mar. 1856 - She further declares that her
son, upon whom she was wholey or in part dependent for support, having
left no widow or minor children under the age of 16 years.... She
also declares that she has not, in any way, been engaged in, or aided
or abetted, the rebellion in the United States.. nor has she again
married since the death of her son, the said Robert Gillenwaters. My
(Mary H. Lee) post office address is as follows..Rossuth Des Moines
County, Iowa.

STATE OF ILLINOIS, COUNTY OF SCHUYLER
Deposition of Henry Klepper, age about 68 years and Nancy
Klepper, age about 62 years, both residents of the County and State
aforesaid, 30 Nov. 1864.
Henry Klepper and Nancy Klepper being duly sworn depose and say
as follows--Viz: We have personally known Mary Lee or Polly Lee (she
being equally well known in her younger days by each of those names
Mary & Poly) over fourty (40) years.. Her maiden name was Mary
Holliday-.. We were witnesses of her marriage to Robert W.
Gillenwaters in the year 1819, in Hawkins County, East Tennessee and
know that she afterwards had a son by the said Robert W. Gillenwater,
by the name of Robert... The said Mary Lee at the present time resides
in Des Moines County, State of Iowa... She at present a widow having
lost two husbands the first by the name of Robert W. Gillenwater and
the second by the name of William Lee. Witnesses

The letter confirms her (Mary H. Lee) relationship as mother to
Robert Gillenwaters, decs. and that William H. Lee, her late husband
died on or about the 27th of March 1857. Information was by and
