====================================================================== Here are transcriptions of four powers of attorney authorizing Joel Moore to act on behalf of his Hestand inlaws. The powers of attorney were given (over a thirteen year period, 1801-1814) by various members of the Hestand clan to Joel Moore. Abraham Hestand (patriarch of the Hestand clan) had married Magdalene Boehm in Shenandoah Co, VA, around 1760 and her father had died in 1797, leaving a lot of land in the Front Royal area in Shenandoah Co. The Boehm sons apparently decided to forget about their relatives who had migrated to Monroe Co and to split up the land amongst themselves. The parents of Joel Moore (whose wife was Regina Hestand, Abraham's daughter) lived near Front Royal. It appears that when he would visit them, he would travel to the area armed with powers of attorney permitting him to act on the Hestand's behalf to try to secure their share of the estate of Samuel Boehm. I don't know how it all finally turned out,but the powers of attorney are interesting and carry some genealogical information. They are copied below. ====================================================================== Abraham Hestand to Joel Moore P of A June 23 1801 Barren County, Kentucky Deeds, Vol. A 1799-1809 Book A Page 42 LDS FHL Film 0209719 Whereas there is part of an Estate comeing to me by my late Wife Magdalane Beam which no? in the hands of Jacob Beam and Reuben Beam Executors of the Estate of Samuel Beam Deceased Now Know ye that I Abraham Hestand divers causes me? there unto moving hath nominated constituted and appointed and by these presents do nominate constitute and appoint Joel Moore my true and Lawful Attorney for me and in my name to ask for demand and receive of the aforesaid Jacob Beam and Reuben Beam Executors as aforesaid of the Estate of Samuel Beam Deceased in Shanadore County in the State of Virginia all my part of the aforesaid Estate that I am intitled to or may be coming to me and to take all Lawful measures to recover the same also to receipt for and give such discharges for the same in my name as I myself might or could do.
