MOORE NEWS Volume I October 2, 1996 Issue 22- Part B COLONIAL MOORES PAM (SUNKST 7) who recently shared with us the interesting story of Dr. David Moore of Prince Edward Island, Canada, expands this family's story in this issue. ******* I found a few more Moore bits of information from the same source in an essay entitled "Short Sketch of the Pioneer Robinsons". The first Robinson listed is Joseph, b. Eng. He "served 3 years on the HMS Arethusa. During that time he visited various colonies and in the year 1762 or 1763 - that of New York. Being favorably impressed he got his discharge in the autumn of that same year and settled there about 12 years previous to the war of Independence. He married Mary Smith of New York..." At the end of the war he and his family went to Nova Scotia, and the following year 1778 ...they along with some twenty five other Loyalists again set sail from Sehlburne, N.S. for Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island... "...four of his family were born in New York or New Jersey. The eldest Hercules and a daughter died there and were buried in Trinity churchyard. Thomas was born in New Jersey. Nancy, Joseph, Mary, John and Elizabeth were all born in Charlottetown...**** John married Elizabeth Moore [youngest] daughter Dr. David Moore of Milton, P. E. Island. ****.." John Robinson, b. 1792 and Elizabeth Moore had 14 children. John was a blacksmith. I believe that they were the grandparents of the Isabella Warren who told this history. By way of a very brief (and simplistic) explanation, Northern Island is, even today, a British 'colony.' English landholders were settled on the land in the seventeenth century, and they attracted Protestant families from the Scottish lowlands to rent and cultivate their holdings. His widow, being removed, a certificate was granted for her. She was disowned by New Garden M.M. 29 June 1730, having married a second husband, Thomas McCollum.
