MOORE NEWS Volume I October 13, 1996 Issue 24 SALUTATIONS This is an extra edition. There are more member profiles on hand than I can quickly work into the regular format and there are a some items of research waiting in the files, saying "me, too" - "me, too." NEW MEMBERS Janalee (JJgarn@msn.com)brings us another northeastern Moore family . . . I think she's a researcher. Janalee, we look forward to hearing from you again. *****My name is Janalee Garn. I grew up in California. I have one brother. My husband is in the Air Force and is stationed at Peterson AFB here in Colorado Springs. We have 9 children and 8 grandchildren, none of which are living here in Colorado. I have been doing genealogy for about 33 years. We just got on-line last month, so I am very new at trying to find my roots on the Internet. I enjoy cooking and gardening. Janalee's Query: I am looking for information on Lydia C. MOORE born in the summer of 1819 in Newburgh, Penobscot, Maine. She married Charles Thomas FLYNN born before Jun 1814 in Maine, possibly Camden or Knox. They were married on 22 Sep 1844 in Penobscot, Maine. They were both of Hampden at the time of their marriage. Charles middle initial has also been found as F. or H., but Thomas is believed to be correct. Lydia's father according to the census was from New Hampshire and his name may have been Ebenezer, but this only an educated guess. No proof so far. Her mother was from Massachusets or Maine. It has been found both ways on the Census. In the 1850 Census Levant, Penobscot, Maine they were living with Daniel and Mary MOORE. He could have been Lydia's father or an uncle or ?? Lydia and Charles had 4 children, Abigal (Abby) Moore, Charles B., Forrest L., and Ada. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might have information on this family, especially on Lydia's parents. My Collaterals (related lines): FLYNN, RICHARDSON, RICKER, MILES and possibly SPEAR. - - - - - - DAVID HOBBS (Dcornet@aol.com) My ancestor's full name was Amanda Fitzallen (Nellie) Moore. She apparently had a brother named Jim S. Moore who served in the Confederate Army. He was born about 1845 and died in 1927 in Calhoun City, MS. They were at some time from Alabama as Jim enlisted from that state. Amanda married Philip Orr Stovall Sugg of Calhoun Co. MS and both are buried in Gordo, AL. She was b. 23 Feb 1852 and d. 13 Apr 1924 in Gordo. This is about all I know. Please pass this along if you will. I appreciate your help very much. If I can help, let me know. - - - - - - ELLEN AND ROBERT MOORE (EMoore9230) The Moore line belongs to my husband. He was born in Lawrence County, Illinois in 1929. He retired from the Air Force in 1978 as a Lt. Col. He worked locally for several years and then became involved in local politics. His paternal line were all early Lawrence County settlers. His Moore line arrived in about 1831. Early history of the county indicates that two Moore brothers--Edward and James-- whe came from TN. We think James was from Wilson Co. TN. We do not have primary evidence of the link from James and Edward, but do have strong circumstantial evidence. James F. Moore, born TN, @1812, prob son of Edward & Catherine (Burton) Moore, marr Elizabeth A. Moore, born TN 1823, in Lawrence Co., IL on 2 Aug 1840. Elizabeth A. was prob dau of James and Elizabeth (Inyart) Moore. They had about four children, with children of son Edward Newton and Ann Mariah (Ridgley) Moore, the only descendants of whom we are aware. There has been a lot of information exchanged on the ancestors of the original Lawrence Co IL Edward & James. A book published by the Indiana DAR in 1976, lists a William Moore who died in Washington Co. IN in 1844 with sons Edward & James among others as son of William & first wife, Olive (Olivia) Free. We have not been able to document this and have not worked on the Moore line for a while. That Wm was listed as born near Dover, Delaware, 1758. Wm's Rev pension record indicates that he entered service in Rowan Co, NC. He was 74 when he applied for his pension in 1832. He also stated he served in KY in 1780 & 1781. - - - - - - JEAN (JBrand1056) I have something that everyone may be interested in: but I need help also: Robert Moore b: c. 1785 maybe SC marr: Leodosia Hamilton: one child known: Louisa Jane Moore b: c 1816 SC marr: John Montgomery Boyd b: 1816 Abbeville, SC (John was a General during the Civil War) John's father & mother Jane Dial drove a wagon train from SC to Boyd, Ala.) Thank you for your time and anyone wanting any info I have, I'll be happy to send on. - - - - - - NELSON STONE (Lee105@aol.com) My great grand father was William M. "Bill" Moore, b 24 Feb 1833 in Tn, d 11 Feb 1902 in Bollinger Co., MO, m 12 Jan 1860 Mary Martha Collier "Polly" Brown b 7 Apr 1840, d 11 Mar 1924. Census reports 10 children, 9 living. I have information on the 9 living children. There are other Moores in the Cape Girardeau CO area dating to the same time period. I have not connected them, but am sure they are related. I feel that Bill's father was named Peter, and that Peter, Jr. was a brother. In the AOL genealogy section is a request frm DIEDRAM@aol.com for information about the Moores. That person indicated that Gallatin, Sumner Co., TN might be a location to look for new material. I will be glad to share my data on the Moores of Cape Girardeau and Bollinger counties of MO if it is of interest to anyone. I would also appreciate any help in determining who Bill or Peter Moore's father is. - - - - - - MICHAEL MOORE (DCM10) I live in San Antonio, Texas. I am just beginning of researching my family history. I would like to submit this name as part of the Moore Family Any help will be appreciated. Franklin Wheeler Moore B. October 11, 1852 D. April 22, 1919 M. Martha Elizabeth Deborah B. September 22, 1850 D. February 22, 1927 Both from Al. or Ga. Both died in Cassin, Texas - - - - - - DAVID (DavidM164I) I joined Moore News with Volume I, Issue 13. Since that time I have learned alot about Moore's in general and I have also become "crazy" with my own family history. I am the District Technology Director for for Mineral Wells ISD in Mineral Wells, Texas. I am new to geneology but believe I have traced my family back to Anderson County, Tennessee in 1811. I am looking for information on the following: 1. Ausburn R. (Roy?) Moore, Red River County (Texas)(b. 11 Jan 1839). He and his wife (Nancy E.) are buried in Garland Cementry, Annona, Texas. I have traced him in Red River County with the 1880 Census. He was married twice (we think). First wife was Nancy E. Young. They had nine children: L. F., James F., Martha F., Joseph C., R. Jones, Lavina, John, and Lula. 2. James C. Moore and Susanna Epperson in Anderson County, Tennessee in 1811. My problem is that I cannot find any real trace of Ausburn R. Moore and family before 1880 in Red River County Texas. - - - - - - ROLAND G. JORDAN (RGJORDAN) My address is: 42 Hector Street Auburn, Maine 04210 I have no problem in communicating with anyone whether its E-Mail or postal. I have 3 different Moore lines that I have started to track in my ancestral line, in the long run they will all probably tie together. They are as follows: First Line: John L. Moore 1801-1890 married Jane I. (last name unknown) 1810-1892 and both are buried in Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth, Hancock, Maine. (no info on parents of either one - or last name of wife) Their son - Edwin Moore born 1832 Ellsworth, Hancock, Maine died 1890 - married Josephine Cousins born 29 Dec 1846 Trenton, Hancock, Maine and died 6 Feb 1921 and they are also buried at Woodbine Cemetery. Their son - Ralph Moore born ca 1878 in Ellsworth, Hancock, Maine and married 11 Aug 1904 in Ellsworth - Mildred V. Young born 24 Feb 1886 in Hancock, Hancock, Maine and died 28 May 1912 in Holden, Penobscot, Maine. Their daughter - Isabelle Marion Moore born 18 Mar 1911 Holden, Penobscot, Maine and died 16 Mar 1933 in Greene, Androscoggin, Maine she married 19 Jun 1927 in Greene - Herbert Ray Jordan born 5 Aug 1903 in Turner Androscoggin, Maine and died 22 Jan 1981 in Lewiston, Androscoggin, Maine - Isabelle was adopted by John Caswell of Greene and had the last name Caswell when she married Herbert Ray Jordan. Second Line: Edward Moore married to Betsey Maddocks (no info on parents of either one) Their Daughter - Azuba born 1813 Ellsworth, Hancock, Maine died 4 Dec 1874 married 12 Sep 1832 in Ellsworth Leonard Jarvis Garland born 27 Jan 1809 Ellsworth, Hancock, Maine died 3 Apr 1894 Third Line: William Moore (lived in York, York, Maine) married Dorothy (last name unknown) Their son - Thomas Moore who died 22 Apr 1718 (lived in York, York, Maine) and married Hannah Williams daughter of Lewis & Christian Williams Their son - Wyatt Moore who married 16 Nov 1740 in Biddeford, York, Maine Elizabeth Wormwood daughter of Thomas & Jane Cole Wormwood Their daughter - Miriam Moore bapt 27 Jul 1746 Biddeford, York Maine and married 1 Jul 1767 in Biddeford, York, Maine Josiah Garland bapt 13 Oct 1728 in Rye, Rockingham, NH That is what I have on my Moores so far, many gaps, dates, parents, etc. to fill in. RESEARCH PAM ( SUNKST 7) [Note: Pam apologized for writing so frequently, but she keeps finding unusual and interesting accounts about Moores who started in PEI and are now in CA, so I just hope she keeps on doing that thing she's doing.] ***** My gr-gr grandfather, Stephen MacCallum, was one of about 40 men of Prince Edward Island, Canada who comprised "The Charlottetown California Corporation". They purchased the brig "Fanny" and sailed from Charlottetown, PEI, for the Gold Rush in California in 1849 via "the horn" of South America. The "Fanny" was sold in San Francisco and the men went their seperate ways. Among the Charlottetown California Association, I found: George Moore, accountant Edward Moore, baker William W. Moore, clerk As before, I have more information including a photo of the brig and two first-hand accounts of the voyage and would be happy to correspond with anyone interested. - - - - - - JUDY ALLEY (JudyAlley) sends the following information: Source: Overwharton Parish Virginia Register, Page 83 [Note: I think Overwharton Parish was in Stafford Co VA] BIRTHS: Elizabeth More, daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth Moore, born 20 Dec 1740 John Moore, son of Nathaniel Moore, born 1 Aug 1744 Sarah More, daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah More, born 6 Nov 1745 Mary More, daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah More, born 31 Jan 1748 Sarah More, daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah More, born 26 Apr 1750 John Moore, son of Nathaniel and Sarah Moore, born 20 Sept 1752 Isaac Moore, son of William and Mary Moore, born 25 Mar 1753 Ann More, daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah More, born 8 Jun 1754 William More, son of William and Mary More, born 30 Dec 1754 Jane More, daughter of Nathaniel More, born 17 Jun 1756 Eliza Moore, daughter of William Moore, born 23 Dec 1756 MARRIAGES: Nathaniel More and Else Nichols, married 31 Dec 1743 Nathaniel More and Sarah Page, married 11 Sept 1745 Jane Moore and Bryan Macmahon, married 30 Dec 1747 William More and Mary Green, married 28 Nov 1751 DEATHS: Mary More, died 10 Nov 1744, she was an orphan and died at John Water's Sarah More, died 5 March 1750, died at William George's plantation - - - - - - JOYCE (JBrown7169) submits: Source: Loudon County Marriages, 1760-1850; John Vogy & T.
