MOORE NEWS Volume I November 16, 1996 Issue 30 SALUTATIONS This is an extra issue devoted to introductions only. We have fallen behind again and those who are standing in line must be impatient to get their information circulating so they can join with the rest of us in exchanging data with those who may have the same Moore lines. We will probably have another extra issue for introductions in a few days. MOORE NEWS continues to add 8 or 10 new members every week. Welcome to all of you, thank you for your patience if you've been waiting in the wings, and good luck in your search. I hope MOORE NEWS will prove to be the instrument that increases your understanding about your family. BENSON (BvorsethB@prodigy.com) ***** My earliest known Moore ancestor was Stephen Moore born before 1765 near Richmond, VA. He was married to Catherine ___, and they had six children born near Richmond and in Botetourt County, VA. Stephen died intestate in Botetourt County, VA, in 1811. (I have a copy of the papers to settle his estate.) Shortly after that his widow and several members of his family moved to Madison County, OH. - - - - - - - - - - MARGARETTE E DAVIS (SCCW12A@prodigy.com) ***** I was born in Sangamon Co., IL but have lived in CA for over 50 years. I have been married to my husband, Ray Davis for over 50 years, have two grown children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. I worked for a number of years as an inspector for an aerospace mfgr., retiring in 1988. I started researching my family in 1992, but it was not until a year later that I got to the Moores. The central character in my research is Jeremiah Moore b sometime around 1765, at an undisclosed place, so far. He lived in Spartanburg, SC by 1785, possibly much before that, as his oldest daughter, Rebeckah Moore Page was reportedly born there in that year. He was married to Susannah (maiden name unknown). This may have been a second marriage as in census records Susannah does not appear to be old enough to be the mother of Rebeckah. In 1787, Jeremiah bought property in Spartanburgh Co., SC bordering on the Enoree River and Laurens Co. near the town of Woodruff. There were other Moores in this area, only they lived on the other side of the Enoree. This is up in the very tip of Laurens Co. There are some who say that Jeremiah was the son of Thomas and Rosannah Fowler Moore who received a land grant in this area 1772. There is evidence to support this but so far I have found no actual proof of it. A Thomas Moore did witness the deed when Jeremiah purchased his property from Robert Sims. Robert Sims witnessed a deed for Thomas Moore when he sold his property in 1795. Jeremiah had a daughter Rosannah, perhaps named for his mother, if this is the case. The mentioned above, Thomas Moore, sold his Enoree River property in 1795, moving reportedly to Hawkins Co., TN along with some other of his children and then on to Knox Co., KY about 1806-08. Jeremiah sold his SC property about 1800 and did not re-surface until 1806 in Barren Co., KY. About 1818-19, the family moved on to White Co.(now Hamilton Co.), IL where they lived until sometime around 1823-26, moving northward in IL up to Sangamon Co. I find Jeremiah and others of his family living in Sangamon co., IL up until 1840, when they all disappear except for my GG-Grandparents who stayed there. All together 10 generations of my family have lived in Sangamon Co., IL.--many are still there. Reportedly the children of Thomas Moore b August 4, 1739 d November 22, 1833 in Corbin KY and Rosannah Fowler Moore b August 22, 1747 d February 1803 are as follows: 1. Jeremiah Moore b about 1765 m Susannah 2. Elizabeth Moore 3. Deborah Moore b about 1769 m Jesse Fowler 4. Mary Moore b about 1771 m Isaac Fowler d in Schuyler Co., IL in 1849 5. Elizabeth Moore b about 1790 in SC.d December 1849 in Sangamon Co., IL m April 13, 1813 in Barren Co., KY to John Carter b about 1790 in VA (my GGG-Grandparents) 4. Sally Moore b about 1792 in SC m September 11, 1820 in White Co., IL to Thomas Evans b about 1796 in VA (also my GGG-Grandparents). The grandson of Elizabeth married the granddaughter of Sally 5. Milley Moore b about 1794 in SC m August 5, 1811 in Barren Co., KY to Alexander Edwards 6. Elias Moore b about 1797 in SC no record of marriage but lived in Sangamon Co.,IL until 1846 7. Robert Moore b 1799 in SC m October 14, 1817 in Barren Co., KY to Sally Garvin d about 1847? 8. Rosannah Moore b about 1800 (census 1850 says in KY but may have been in SC) m John Shirley in 1824 Hamilton Co., IL, John Murphy in Sangamon Co., IL 1831 and Richard Ray in Warren Co., IL in 1853 9. Unknown male b 1800-1810 10. Unknown male b 1800-1810 11. Unknown male b 1800-1810 12 Deborah Moore b about 1806 Some of these dates are approximate and the order of birth of the children may not be correct. I have many more descendants of both Thomas and of Jeremiah. I believe that Jeremiah is the son of Thomas and Rosannah but do not feel that it is proven. The descendants of Thomas have been passed on to me by other researchers but the work on Jeremiah is my own research. - - - - - - - - - - ELAINE RANDALL ENGLISH (eng4@STC.Net) ***** I am a 48 year old housewife in rural NE GA mountains dedicated to genealogical research and almost nothing else! I work in Berkeley (Berzerkeley as we call it here in Ca.) at a National Laboratory. I am researching the Moore/Currie (Curry) line at the present time. I am planning another trip back to Ireland/Scotland/England next fall and would like to get as much info as I can before I go. All seem to be from one of these countries. My Moore family is Ellen (Ellender, Nellie) Moore from Maryland b. 1793, possilby has a brother Jacob Moore. Tax lists show Jacob Moore in Hancock Co. Ga. in 1804 along with John, Claybourne, and Richard Curry. In 1812 Baldwin Co., Ga., Carey Currie married Nellie Moore. In 1813 Nancy Currie married John Moore. Around 1820 Jacob Moore moved to Alabama, Montgomery co. Nellie and Cary went to Baldwin Co. Alabama where supposidly Cary died 1825. The 1830 Census for Jacob Moore in Montogomery Co. Al, and Nellie Currie. In 1840 Census Jacob Moore, William Moore, Nellie Currie are very close by in the census records. Montgomery co. track book land entries for Township 12, Range 20, sect. 29,30,31,32, close to the Pike Co line and one mile from Pisgah Church, the entries read: Jacob Moore (1820, 1821, 1834, 1835, 1846,1848,1850,& 1851) Ellinder/Ellender/Ellen (Moore) Curry (1833, 1836, 1847) William Moore (Possibly son) (1836, 1837, 1847, 1850, 1851) Andrew Moore (1837) Nubil A. Moore (1838) Jacob Redmon (married Ellen's Daughter) (1844) Thomas M.L. Moore (1854). They all bought land very close to each other thru the years. In Baldwin Co. Ga. the marrieages that took place before 1830 are: Arthur Moore & Peggy Clower 8/6/1809 Polly Moore & Avera Wheeler 8/21/1810 Newbill (from Above Nubal) Moore & Mary Matthews 10/4/1812, Carrey Currie & Nellie Moore 12/8/1812 Eudocia Moore & Moses Flint 12/31/1812 Tabitha Moore & Washington McGinty 9/16/1813 Frances Moore & James T.
