I have hit a brick wall with my Grandfather Neally (Neilly) Moore; his father's name was Isaac Moore, but I haven't gotten further than that and I don't have much on Neally or Isaac. My father said some of his family came from VA or WVA, but that's all he knew. My father's family lived in Cabarrus Co., NC early 1900's. They were related by marriage to the Waddell's and Martin's of Anson Co., NC. I am presently in touch with a Waddel descendent who is going to put me in touch with a mutual relative in Concord who may be able to shed some light on my Moore ancestors. Does anyone know anything about this family? - - - - - - - - - - EILEEN COPPOLA (E5jc6@aol.com) *****I'm new to this method of communication, so please bare with me: I now live in Boston MA and am a 40+yrs Member (off & on) NEHGS. First: (I'm stuck on) is a Mary S Moore, b. a1842 TN? d. 1905 KY) m. Isaac Thrasher b. 1839 TN d. 1905 KY). They moved to KY between 1877-1880. I know nothing more about her. Second: Samuel Moore d. 1688 married Sep 12, 1656, Mary Ilsley, born 1638, Newbury, MA. died 1678. They moved to Woodbridge, NJ ca1666. I'm not tracing this Moore Line, just an FYI. Third: is only a maybe. My John Inslee, born 1788 NJ, married a Julia Ann Miller in 1832 Gorham, NY. 2nd marriage for both. I think she might be the Julia Ann More, who married a Andrew Miller in 1829 Bethlehem, NJ. - - - - - - - - - - - - - RICHARD SMOTHERMON (rsmother@mis.net) *****I am seeking any information about the parents of Mary D. Moore, my gg-grandmother. She was born on 3-Aug-1809 in NC, and moved to middle TN before 1836. She married Marcus Smotherman (b. 1814) on 19-Oct-1835 in Rutherford Co. TN, and moved to Calloway Co. KY about 1841, where she died on 5-Jan-1892. Any information about Mary D. Moore's parents or family would be especially helpful. I suspect she may have belonged to one of the following three families listed in the 1840 Rutherford Co. TN census: David More b. 1790-1800 Noble More b. 1780-1790 Phebe More b. 1800-1810 Mary D. Moore had a female, J. C. Moore, 30 years old, living with her in Calloway Co. KY in the 1850 census. I suspect this she was a younger sister. In 1840, each of the three families above included a female of the correct age to possibly be J. C. Moore. Does anyone know of someone who is knowledgable about the Moore families of Rutherford Co. or Bedford Co. TN in the early 1830's? Any information or assistance would be greatly appreciated. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - JOHN WARREN WHITE (flywfarm@atlantic.net) *****Joseph Moore was born 28th Dec. 1787 in North Carolina. I am Terry Bradshaw O'Neill (not THE Terry Bradshaw) and have been studying my MOORE lineage for 14 years. I am a lineal descendant of John Moore (1659-1732) of South Carolina and Pennsylvania; his son, John Moore (1786-1749) of New York City; his son, Stephen Moore (1734-1799) of NYC and NC, owner of West Point; his daughter, Mary Moore Stanford (1778-1851) who married Hon. Richard Stanford of NC. My interest was piqued originally when I realized there were mistakes in the published family history that my grandmother gave me. I've been chasing Moores and trying to correct the errors ever since. I believe I have proven with a preponderence of evidence that these Moores are in no way connected to the Moores of Fawley, Bucks, England, as had previously been written, accepted, and carved in stone. I cannot take credit (or blame) for all the research that was done to disprove the Fawley connection. It was very much a group effort that included an instigator (now deceased), two researchers in England and several Moore descendants in this country. I did however, write up our findings and publish them in a publication called the Moore/Stanford/Webb Chronicles. There is yet a great deal of research that remains to be done on all aspects of the lineage, but my focus is on bringing all possible branches from Stephen Moore forward. I've lost a few of them in the early 19th century. My secondary purpose is to clean up the errors in the lineage with better and more thorough research techniques, and to dispense the corrected genealogy and family history as a debt of gratitude to all those previous writers who blazed this trail. Thank goodness they cared enough to leave us their legacy. The third priority of my current research is to trace the branches of the second generation and bring them forward, particularly from Col. John Moore of NYC and his brother, William Moore of Moore Hall, Chester Co., PA.. Stephen Moore, after leaving West Point between 1775-76, settled in an area of Orange County, NC, which then became Caswell, and finally Person County. These are just a few of the names that connected to the Moores in subsequent generations: Dickens, Bailey, Dudley, Stanford, Webb, Pulliam, Knott, Reade, Bradshaw. I live in Bedford, TX, between Dallas and Fort Worth. I have a husband, Ken, who is my computer guru, but only tolerates my genealogy affliction. We have two married daughters, Shawn and Kimberly, and three terrific grandsons: Austin-8, Aubrey-4 1/2, and Alex 1 1/2. I am active in the Mid-Cities Genealogical Society and the Dallas Genealogical Society. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - TIM (Tim101057@aol.com) *****All of my relatives from my father's side of my family are from Stokes County, and almost all of them lived in Stokes County by 1800. My family's last names include Stewart, Shelton, Brown, Reddick, Abbott, Fulton, Young, Davis, Redmond, Cardwell, Amos, Hutcherson, and the Williams family. The reason I am placing my query here is I would "assume" that I am related to the Moore family since my Great, Great, Great Grandfather was a Charles Moore Williams. Charles was born in N.C., probably Stokes Co., in about 1814. He married Elizabeth Hutcherson on April 7, 1846 in Stokes County. They had several children, including Rusty, Susan, Pleasant, Ruth, Charles E., James B., M. Henry, and my Great, Great, Grandfather Daniel Hutson Williams. If anyone knows who the parents of either Charles Moore Williams or Elizabeth Hutcherson (born about 1821), please contact me. I would be happy to share what I have on any of the above listed names. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - JERRY MOSGROVE (mosgrove@bendnet.com> *****My "orphan" is named Alfred Moore b. 5/1820 in IN. He was a Quaker and was listed in Quaker records in Aug., 1837 as a minor moving from Blue River MM in Washington Co, IN to White Lick MM in Morgan Co., IN. In Oct of 1837 he moved back to the Blue River MM. In June of 1839 he was disowned for neglected attendance. In Oct 1842 he married Martha Kerr(?) in Morgan Co., but their first child Mary, was born in 1843 in Mooresville, Brown Township, IN. (The founder of Mooresville, Samuel Moore, who was there at the time, had no living offspring. Could Alfred have been related to him in some way?) Other children were Sarah in 1845, Laura S. in 1847, Robert in 1848 and Margaret in 1850. Alfred is listed in the Mooresville, IN, census in 1850 as having no occupation (with five children!!) and being worth $200. He appears again in the 1900 census as a widower living with his daughter, Mary, in Newberg, Yamhill Co., OR, at age 80. I can't seem to learn anything more about him through the Quaker records, although there are lots of Moores there. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - JUDY DELANO (Montrue@aol.com) *****I live and work in Baton Rouge, La.
