MOORE NEWS Volume II March 29, 1997 Issue 14 - New Members NEW MEMBERS INTRODUCTIONS DIANNE BUCKLEY (bucko@alaska.net) *****Can someone help me find the ancestors of Rebecca Moore? She was born May 27,1821 in KY, married John Denison NOBLE, from VA, on September 3,1839 at Dubois Co, IN; she died in 1903 at Grand Island, NE. During their marriage they had atleast 12 children. I list the first and middle names of their children on the chance that this might help draw a connection with other Moore families. Dorinda Moore James Monroe Angeline Noble Lucinda Margaret Mary Jane Thomas Moore Arron Winter Jacob Phoenix Sarah Eunice Amy Denison I did find record of Rebecca and John NOBLE on the 1840 census in Dubois Co, IN. There are other Moore and NOBLE families living near them but I cannot make any connection between the families. After 1840 I lose the couple until the 1870 census in MO. Both the 1870 and 1880 census show them and also show that their children were born in IN, IA and MO during the period of time I have been unable to locate them. From that point forward I have good information about the family which I would gladly share. Any help would be appreciated. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - TOMMY J. Moore (tMoore@texoma.net) ****** I would love to share our finds with others and look forward to gaining additional information concerning our respective branches of the family Moore. First, here is a note about the family of my wife, Elzabeth Ann Banner and myself. Both of use have a Moore line. Her's will be familiar to most of your readers. mine as indicated before is clouded in myst and misery. Elizabeth and I are in our early fifties and have three sons, the youngest of whom just graduated from Texas A&M. We are both native, seventh generation Texans, hers arriving in 1827 and mine in 1822. Elizabeth has been a homemaker while I was an executive with a large general contracting firm. We are both retired and do genealogy as a compulsive/obessive/masochistic hobby. I also restore old Mustang automobiles under the name of SHADE TREE PONIES. We live on Lake Texoma near Gordonville, Texas. 1. John Moore m. Mary Jouett 2.Mathew Moore m. Lettitia Dalton 3.Willam Moore m. Mary Martin 4. Virginia Moore m. John Banner 5. Mary Alice Moore is the daughter of JOHN GODFREY Moore b. ca 1814 in PA and Frances Kepler b. ca 1825 in OH. I also have a photo of a young "Miss Florence Moore" taken in Coles Co., Illinois. I don't know how she might fit in, or what date it was taken. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - BOB SMITH (R0913Smith@aol.com) *****I am descended from John Moore who married Anne Mitchell in Maryland in 1685. His son, William, born 1689 married Elizabeth (Shiles??) and they had several children including Thomas, John, Shildes, Risdon, Charles and at least two daughters. Listed in his will in Maryland in 1752. Risdon married Mary Smythe (Smith) and they had Shildes, John, Mary,Thomas and others. Thomas was born about 1766, was a Revolutionary War soldier and married Ann Chililisley Gouldsborough in Guilford County, North Carolina in 1799. He died in 1823 and Ann Kellister(Name changed from wedding license) Gouldsborough Moore took her children to Randolph County, IN and then to Hendricks Co, IN where she died in 1839. Their daughter, Margaret, married John McCaslin in Hendricks Co, IN in 1837. Their son, Shildes Moore McCaslin married Georgianne Ohaver. Their son Shildes Frederick McCaslin married Carrie Viola Shanklin in 1897. Their daughter, Eva Bernice married Harold Bennett Smith in 1921. I was born 13 Sep 1923 and my name is Robert Earl. I have a brother, John Stanley who was born 6 Jan 1925. I would appreciate any help I can get on William's wife's maiden name, the parents and ancestors of Mary Smythe and the parents and ancestors of Ann Kellister Gouldsborough. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - JACK MOORE (Jacknbetty@aol.com) *****According to Union County, Ohio History my GGGrandfather, Harvey Moore was a very respected pioneer and farmer in Jackson Township, Union Co. He arrived at the age of 21 with a Benjamin Carter and they were the first settlers in that area. Later on he was joined by his younger brother John Moore (Jr.?). My family members nor residents of Jackson Township never seemed to know the name of the Father of the two men. The only information given was the story line was that their father was killed in 1812. It was known that Harvey & Brother John were born in Champaign Co Ohio in the vicinity of Urbana. My Cousin, Dick WEST and I have spent the past 10 years searching for info on the father. Just recently, we recieved an article written by an ancestor of the Carters which indicated that a Caleb Carter had a daughter named Sarah who married a John Moore in Mayfield, Mason Co, KY September 1802. No info was given on the parents of John. John, Sarah and the Carters all migrated to Ohio and settled in Champaign Co in the vicinity of Mechanicburg. John and Sarah had 6 children; Nancy b.abt 1803, James b. 1804, Harvey b. Jan 1, 1805. Sherry b.1807, Isaac b. 1811 and John Jr b. May 23,1813. The story says that in 1812, John left home with a horse(s) and wagon and never returned. Except for Harvey and John Jr, the rest of the family was never heard from again. Someone said Nancy married a Willy Wilson in Urbana but cannot be confirmed. We need HELP on locating information on these MooreS. We know that Sarah was b. 1784 and suspect that John was about the same age. If anyone has any information on the Kentucky MooreS in that part of the country we would be most appreciative. Now, something about yours truly. I was born in Marion, Ohio December 7, 1933. I have one older Brother, Bill born November 1, 1931. We grew up mostly in Richwood, Union Co, Oh. Our parents, Howard Guy Moore b. April 29, 1897 and Jane Amelia Donohue b. January 30, 1913, were separated and later divorced. We were under the guardianship of my grandparents, John Harvey Moore (1865 - 1944) and Orpha Grace Noogle (1874 - 1964). During the War years, we were placed in the Methodist Children's Home in Worthington, Ohio and stayed there until 1946. Back to Richwood for a short period of time, then I went to Marion to live with my Mother. In 1951, Bill and I joined the U S Navy and served 4 years. During that period I married and had a daughter Marsha Diane b. October 15, 1953. She is now a MRI Specialist in Columbus. Her Mother & I divorced. I joined the US Army in 1955 and served 16 additional years until my retirement in 1971. My present wife, Betty Lee Morrison b. February 10, 1937, was my first love when I was a very young boy. She and I met again while I was in the service and home on leave. That is the best part of my life. Betty and I have a fine son, Alan Lee b. May 2, 1971, He is the light of our life and just completed his studies at John Hopkins University in December 1996. He will be formally graduating in May of this year. I also have 4 step-children that are all doing extremely well. I say step-children only because they don't share my name but they are "my kids". I am now downsizing myself on the work side and will retire as soon as Betty lets me. I am presently a Fraud Investigator for a major credit card company. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - MERLE J. MOORE (mjMoore@westal.net) *****The earliest ancestor we have been able to trace so far was John Camm Moore (Sr), b. Abt 1770 in South Carolina. He m. Abt 1789, Laura (Anna?) Boyles. He d. 25 March 1860 in Gibson County, Indiana. ISSUE: (F) Rachel (F) Joann (M) Joe (M) Edward b. He was previously m. to Nancy Phillips d/o Edwin Phillips (No further information on her). Elizabeth was previously m. to Amos Roberts. She was b. 17 November 1815 in Kentucky and d. 16 March 1897 in Gibson County, Indiana. John Cam (Jr) and Elizabeth had (11) children. I have some information on each of them which I will be glad to share if desired. All of them were born in Indiana. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - CAROL MOORE BLAIS (CBLAIS@worldnet.att.net) *****My name is Carol (Moore) Blais; I've been researching my family tree for about 23 years. My husband and I both retired in 1988, and I've become involved with hybridizing irises, so spring through fall are busy with garden activities, even though my first interest is genealogy. We had six children, five are still living and have their own families. We have 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I worked with computers for 21 years before retirement, but all were the big main-frames, so my PC experience is nil. My youngest son is my tech; he is planning to move to FLA, so I'll probably have problems when he goes. I've only recently started using the Internet for genealogy, so am really raw here. There seem to be many people willing to share their work, I've already found some help in another line. Maybe I'll be able to repay the favor. John Moore of Sudbury, MA, in 1643 is my earliest Moore ancestor; I've done lots of research on his family, not just my own line - I have 450+ families and 2000+ of his descendants, but they are not on my computer (yet). I've also extracted the 1850 census Moore (and variants) families for VT, MA and New York City; have some info on the other Moore families from New England. One of my problems is the wife of Jonadab Moore, Thankful Sargent; tradition has it she's daughter of Capt. Nathaniel Sargent, who came to America in his own ships, two of which named the Eagle and the Delight, and a third whose name has been lost - Capt. Nath. was employed by the Colonies to do privateering during the Revolution. Jonadab & Thankful "pioneered" in VT about 1800, she died in Newfane in 1860 aged 82 or 84. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - FRANKLIN A. LOVELESS (f1s2@juno.com) *****The following is a list of the Moores I have in my one family line. Samuel Perry Moore born 22 Oct 1875 in unknown location. Married Frances A. Apps on 29 September 1903 in Missaukee Co., MI by Wm Sidebotham a Presbyterian Pastor. The witnesses were Isabella Sidebotham and Elizabeth Rogers. They had one son, Charles Edward Moore. who was born 11 April 1905 and married Antonia Arizmedi 31 December 1946 in Brownsville Comeron Co., Texas. I believe that Charles has died. I have not been able to verify this. I am working on this line to fill in the Frances A. Apps line of my family tree. If anybody can supply information I would greatly appreciate it. ================================================================== Back issues of Moore NEWS available at: http://www.public.asu.edu/~Moore/news ============================================================================= Moore NEWS: Compiled from email and other sources Distributed by Joyce Browning cJBrown7169@AOL.com 29 March 1997
