MOORE NEWS Volume II March 31, 1997 Issue 15, Part A Extra SALUTATIONS MARTHA MARBLE (mmarble@erols.com) has opened her files to subscribers of MOORE NEWS. Her research covers many Moore families in several eastern North Carolina counties -- Craven, Johnston, Lenoir, Wayne, and others. MOORE NEWS has heretofore carried only isolated information about Moores in these counties. In a determined search for her family, Martha culled a great deal of Moore data from a variety of sources. As I glance through it, Moore names that I know people are looking for jump out at me. Many, many thanks to Martha for making her files available to MOORE NEWS. Beyond finding the information presented here, it was a big undertaking for Martha to prepare it for the use of MOORE NEWS subscribers and to coordinate with me in finalizing it. Martha's notes and observations are rich in Moore details. She cautions, however, that she can neither confirm some information which is based on secondary sources or expand on some of it inasmuch as it was produced while she searched for her own line. However, snippets of information which may be meaningless to some, may prove to be the missing piece of someone's lost family. The hope is that lots of you find your 'lost' Moore in these records. When you do, give Martha a chance to celebrate with you. Many, many thanks, Martha, for sharing this with MOORE NEWS. Good rooting, Moores! ________________________ *****MOORE - RECORDS IN CRAVEN COUNTY NC 1. Zachariah on no further Tax List or voting list but one on 1800 Census of Lenoir County NC aged 26 - would this be a different generation? 4. 1780 Tax List - Ephraim, Amaziah, Azariah 5. Voting List 1788 - Azariah, Azaziel 6. Greene County 1800 Census - Ephraim - probably a Jr. 7. 1790 Dobbs Census over 16 under 16 Females Ephraim l.....................0.....................0 lived in Contennea Neck Isaiah l.....................5.....................3 Emphrain l.....................0.....................2 Amaziah l.....................3.....................2 My guess would be that Ephraim Sr was the father of Zachariah, Isaiah, Emphrain, Jr. and Amaziah - liked those Biblical names - if we assume a person to be 16 when listed on the tax list then Zachariah would have been born by 1753 making his father born by 1730; however the Zachariah on the 1800 Census was born no earlier than 1774. Also Amaziah and Azariah would have been born by 1759 to be on the 1780 Tax List. It thus appears we have three generations. *****MOORE - DOBBS COUNTY [Note: Dobbs was an early eastern North Carolina county which no longer exists.
