MOORE NEWS Volume II April 14, 1997 Issue 17 New Members 2 SALUTATIONS This is the first of two or three issues this week of New Member introductions. We're stacked up again. I don't want to be the reason that delays link ups created by Introductions. I'll be out of town the last part of the week, so everything will coming at you early in the week. NEW MEMBER INTRODUCTIONS JOHN MOORE (cheemo@sedona.net) *****My line is from Moses MOORE written up in "Historical Sketches of Pocahantas County West Virginia" by William T. Price published by Price Brothers, Marlinton, WV on page 108-112. I have information, not confirmed, that his father was also named Moses (b. 1686) and he had a son named Moses who is not of my direct line. Most of what I have is just father, son with not much on spouses or siblings. Moses m. VA 1760 Son William Son Addison Joseph Nelson b. 25 Feb 1837 d. July 1809 Joseph was married to his second cousin Sarah Jane Duffield (d.2 Mar 1875) and they had six sons, the second one was my Grandfather Adam Emory who told me bits and pieces of their trip from Virginia to central Iowa in the early 1860s. Most of the names and dates after that I have reasonably accurate information. The family Bible was stolen in the 1930s and much of what I have is from notes made by my fathers uncle and he didn't take note of all the spouses and siblings. My last living uncle gave me the above info before he died. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - BUCKLERS@avonpark.macdill.af.mil *****John D. Moore b-1810? m-27 Nov 1838 in Prince Georges Co., MD P-? They lived in TN. They had 14 children including Camilla, William, Thomas, Mary, Sarah, Jesse (M), Lucy, Susan, Docia, Emma, Sabrina and Cora. John's father was William Moore who had come to Wilson Co by 1810 and Gibson Co TN by 1825. Their son William b. Mar 23, 1838, died 1886, married Sarah E. McDearmon in 1877 and had Anna, Allie and John. William was the clerk of the Circuit/criminal courts in Trenton TN from 1870-1886. He served in the Confederacy Co. F, 4th TN Infantry and lost his leg at Peach Tree Creek. He was a Mason and member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Believe that William came from VA and have not yet discovered his ancestors. Looking for his wife as well and have not found a tie for the name "Camilla" yet. Interested in any Moore's with Camilla in the family. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - LINDA JEANNE WALNUT (LindaWalnt@aol.com) [Ed. Note: Linda's introduction doesn't stipulate, but I believe her first Moore family is from New Kent Do VA and her second Moore family is descended from the New Kent family, but was based a little further west in Albemarle Co VA.] *****HI. I have 2 Moore lines that eventually "connected" with WINSTON & CLARK. I was born Linda Jeanne Norris, April 15 1954, in Milwaukee, WI. I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA from 1 year old to 18. I attended University of KY, in Lexington, KY and got a BGS concentrating in Anthropology. I spent 7 years in Knoxville, TN doing hotel work. I worked in the Hilton across the street from the World's Fair when it was in Knoxville. I then moved to Philadelphia, PA area and lived there for 13 years. After a few years of data input work, I went to Control Data Institute and became a Computer Programmer, which I did for the next 6 years. During my programming years, I married Henry R. Walnut and then became pregnant. A couple of weeks before my due date I became a stay at home mom-to-be. Lisa' first 2 years were in Philadelphia area, PA, then Henry, Lisa and I moved to Atlanta, GA with our 2 cats and one fish. We have been here for 1 1/2 years now. We plan to be here at least until Lisa is out of High School. I have recently found I have Moore ancestors from visiting web sites, so I do not have much information, and would very much like to have more Moore information. She was born Laura Alice Moore on January 20, 1876 in Hutchinson, Kansas according to her Birth Certificate. There have been discrepancies on this info -my mother said she was born in Kansas City, KS. I recall my grandmother telling me of days when she was young and the Indians would come to her house for food. I believe she had 10 brothers and sisters from her stories. Her parents are listed as William and Rachel Moore - birthplace unknown. She married my grandfather, Charles Thomas McNeely, in 1904, place unknown. At some point she arrived in California. This is not clear yet. She had two children, my mother Mildred Peyton McNeely and Donald McNeely. Donald moved to England about 1934 and was never heard of again. I don't know where to go from here-any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - BARBARA DUNDAS (dundas@ns1.info2000.net) ****Does this look familiar to anyone? Just trying to research one's own line is daunting because of the commonality My ancestors came from NC through TN and eventually to TX. I currently live in Dallas. Would be interested in exchanging info and research assistance with other seeking MOORE ancestors in Eastern Shore Maryland or DE. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ELEANOR RAYL ( Kasey BR@aol.com) ***** I have Moores in my maternal line that I've had difficulty tracing prior to ancestor Shary Moore (sometimes spelled Sherry) of Ripley, Brown Co OH, born in 1809 in KY, he married Sarah "Sally" Flaugher (b. 1807 OH) prior to 1839 in Brown Co OH. Their daughter, Diane (sometimes Diana) Moore married William Harrison Simpson of Adams Co, OH on 2 Mar 1865. William and Diana Simpson settled in Danville, Hendricks Co IN, where they are both buried. I have much info on the Simpsons, but little on the Moores. There are many Moores on the tax lists of Brown Co (1819) but I can't place Shary's parents. I believe he could be related to William MOORE of Mason Co KY, who emigrated from Ireland at the age of 12. It is probable that Shary is a brother of Isaac Moore of Brown Co OH, b. 2 Jul 1812 KY, as Isaac named one of his 11 children "Sherry." If you have any contacts for me, I'd appreciate it.
