I just found out after two years of research that the first wife of my gggrandfather, John Hundley Earnest, was named Mary. That's all I know. John Hundley was probably born in either James City or Hanover County about 1794. He lived near Old Church in Hanover Co. The Earnest family lived there for over 100 years. John's second wife was Lucy Ann Whitlock. Greene Co Ga 1804 I think that Drury's father was Mark Moore in Rutherford Co NC. In 1831. Drury sold his wife's grandfather's land and one of markers was "old Mark Moore's line". So, speculation is that he married the girl next door. Paying attention to family history began for me as a child in Amarillo,TX. I lived in the same neighborhood as my mother's people and so was more familiar with the maternal side of my Tree. My dear grandmother, Avie E.Lee(Cox)Hickenbottom, lived in a small house just across the street from us. Spending time in the presence of this white-haired little lady was one of life's greatest pleasures! She used to take me everywhere with her, all the while relating wonderful stories of the past. She told me that her greatgrandmother Susannah(Moore)Mountcastle, b 1788 in Virginia, was a cousin to Anne Butler(Moore) Carter, grandmother to General Robert E.Lee. Susannah Moore married William Mountcastle, 1804 in Prince George CO.,VA. At present I am trying to locate the parents of my Susannah Moore and am looking in the direction of the Richard Moore family of Prince George CO.,VA. She was not rich in material possessions - very poor in fact; but her love for her family made her wealthy. Among her sisters were Myrtle Moore (McAlister) and Bessie Moore (Smith). My great grandfather, Sam Lee Moore (born abt 1870), lived all his life in Tippah and Union Counties in northeast Mississippi. He was buried in 1947 in a small country cemetery (Wells Chapel) within a mile of my boyhood home outside New Albany, MS. I am a novice at genealogy and have very little other information on my Moores, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - KASHLYN MOORE (KashlynCov@aol.com) *****I am a new genealogist. My Moore tree was inherited from my father and stepmom - seems they hit a dead in on my great-grandfather's side of the family. If anyone can help me or knows anything on any of the names I mention, please contact me. Thanks in advance. My Great Grandfather was Thomas Barrett Moore b. March 5, 1868 in TN and died Sept. 15, 1950 in Vicksburg, MS. I have only been able to locate him in a 1910 census in Wilkenson Co, MS (where he is listed as being born in TN, parents of NC). Even though my ggfather died in MS, he was, at the time, a resident of Madison Parish, LA. He was known to have lived in Newellton, Tallulah, Wisner, and Gilbert, LA. Believe me when I say he has been a hard man to trace. He was a poor dirt farmer and to my knowledge never a land owner. It is not known where in TN my ggpa was born or who his parents were. Seems no one ever asked. From family stories, it is believe that Thomas had the following brothers and sister: Catherine, aka Kit Moore was said to have lived in Palmer TX and married a Mr. Seal. Elias Moore, nothing known James Henry Moore, aka Jim Henry There is some speculation as to whether his name was Henry James (Jim) too. It is believe that he lived in Sunset TX. Willis Moore, not known for sure if this is a sibling or not. He was killed in 1948. Thomas Barrett Moore, aka T. B. or Tom B., born in TN married abt 1900, 1st Lou Ella Tucker, b. about 1881 in Al, d Mar. 16, 1917 in Gilbert, Franklin Parish, LA. ( there is no death cert for her). It is suggested that Thomas married prior to Lou Ella, but there has been no proof. What is known is that Thomas had family in Tx. When he and his second wife separated for a time, Thomas took his children to relatives in TX who kept them until his return a month later. It is reported that when Thomas went to get Mattie, she had moved with the " Moore family" with whom she had been placed, to OK. To my knowledge, she never returned to her natural family. If any Moore researchers come across a Moore-Barrett marriage, or my Thomas Barrett Moore, or have anything to contribute to my tree please email me. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - PAT CUTLER (SOPHIA9617@aol.com) *****My name is Pat Cutler and I'm trying to locate my gggrandmother Mary Elizabeth (Terrell) Moore, b 26 April 1845. She was married to Daniel W. MOORE on 3 September, 1863 in Kokomo, Howard Co, IN. The 1880 census states that she was born in Ohio; the family Bible says Alto, Howard Co, IN. I have not found a Terrell family in Howard Co, so I'm assuming the census is correct. I have found a Mary Elizabeth Terrell, age 16, living with a Moore family on 1860 census for Adams Township, Clinton Co, Ohio. The fact she was living with a Moore family, and married into another Moore family, seems to be a very strange coincidence. Does any one know anything about Joshua Moore, b abt 1792, his wife Nancy, b abt 1799, their sons (?) Mieujah (I'm not sure of spelling) b abt 1822, William b abt 1824, Seth b abt 1839, and Thomas E b abt 1845 and what their relationship with Mary E Terrell was? The earliest that I have is William Moore b. bef 1720, d Mar 1787 in Down Twp., Cumberland Co. NJ. He m. in 1741 Ann Dickenson (dau of William, Salem Co.). Their children included William Jr. (1744-1817), Dickenson, Mary, Edward. Does anyone know who William's parents might be or where he came from. I have lots of info on descendants; it was a large family. There are lots of Moores in southern NJ. I'm glad to be amongst you. I've been doing our genealogy for over 20 years; but only recently on the computer. I call it my "machine" which bugs my eldest son who works for a computer conglomerate. According to his death registration, he was born 20 Jun 1835 in Ireland (county unknown). His mother was Elizabeth Maguire: his father's first name is unknown (this is a source of concern to me). He married Eliza Downey 3 May 1868 in Townsend twp, Ontario. They had two children: David b ~1869 and Eliza b 1872. Eliza, the wife, died giving birth to her daughter. David married his second wife, a widow, Eleanor Eggleston Smith, 29 Aug 1876 in Walpole twp, Ontario. David and Eleanor had one son, my grandfather, John James Moore, born 11 May 1877. I have not been able to trace my ggf back to Ireland and his oldest son, David, has also eluded me. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - MARY (Cooksey) SALISBURY (maryoc@worldnet.att.net) *****I am descended from Beedie Moore who married William Silas Holt and was the last child and daughter of William Wiley Moore and 1) Sarah Elizabeth Edwards. William Wiley Moore was b Jan 1846 Wild Cat Mountain, Whitley County, KY, son of Francis Nathaniel Moore and Delila ____. Wiley had 3 wives and 10 children. He d 1922 "when the peaches were ripe and ready to can. I had an apron full of peaches when they came to tell me about his death." [Beedie Moore Holt] Francis Nathaniel "Nathan" Moore was b 12 Jun 1779 NC son of Thomas Moore & Delila Williams. Nathan died 20 Aug 1865 Crawford County, AR . Delila, his wife, died 5 Jun 1876 Crawford County, AR. Both are buried at Bolton Cemetery, Dean Springs, Crawford, AR. It is conjectured he had at least 17 children by at least two women. He and Delila had 14 children. He is said to have had 3 children previously by 1 or more mothers and he probably was not married to them and left them to move onward. Delila was b 14 Feb 1800 NC, making a 21 year difference in their ages, leaving room for previous marriages (or ??). A marriage with Delila has not been found. Nothing more is known about Thomas Moore and Delila Williams other than their names. If someone would like to have a list of any of the children of the above people, with dates and places, I will be more than happy to share what I have.
