I have three wonderful children and two sweet grandchildren. They are scattered from Texas to Florida and Illinois. I have been doing genealogy research for over thirty years (no, you're really never done :-) I love traveling (Elderhostels), my computer, cooking, gardening and swimming. My paternal Moore line begins with Samuel Moore who was b. at Staunton, VA., 14 July, 1761, parents unknown. He married Mary Archer, dau. of John & Eliz. (?) Archer. Samuel enlisted in the Rev. War from Greenbrier Co., VA. (now W.V.) Some of their children were supposedly born there. The family removed to Nicholas Co., KY. Their children were: Eliz. died young; Samuel, Jr. b. 15 Apr., 1780, mar. Mary Marshall, "Polly," at Carlisle, Nicholas Co KY.; John Archer, b. 2 Aug., 1792, mar. Nancy Berry, 2 Jul., 1818, Nicholas Co KY; Jesse, b. 8 Aug., 1794, mar. Mary Hamilton, 11 June, 1817, Nicholas Co KY, family later resided Hancock Co., IL; Martha W. b. 3 Nov., 1796, mar. 1 Aug., 1824, Putnam Co., IN. John Baird (my ancestors); Nancy, b. 20 Feb., 1799, mar. Isaac Peck, 20 Sep., 1818; James, b. 5 Mar., 1801, Nicholas Co KY, mar. Margaret Berry, 8 Jan., 1828, Nicholas Co KY; Dorcas b. 10 Aug., 1803, died young; Lucinda mar. James H. Shields, Putnam Co., IN; and Mary, "Polly," b. 31 Oct., 1809, Nicholas Co KY, mar. 23 Jan., 1828, Dr. Frank Arnold. From Nicholas Co. Samuel and wife and some of the children migrated to Putnam Co., IN where both he and his wife died. Who were Samuel's parents and siblings? Would be interested in hearing from descendants of Samuel's children. Thanks - - - - - - - - - - - - - KATHY ZAMECKI (KAZ TALK@aol.com) *****I have been getting the Moore newsletter about 3 weeks now and thought I needed to send in some info on myself and my Moore family. I live in Las Vegas NV. I have been researching my family for about 17 years (off and on). I am married and I have 4 children and 1 grandchild from my first marriage and 3 stepchildren from my current marriage. I am an ECS Trainer at the welfare department in Nevada. What I do is train new employee to be eligibility workers. I was born in Denver, Colorado 40 years ago. I spent most of my childhood growing up in different areas in Colorado, mainly Pueblo and also in Kansas near Hays. I have 2 younger brothers (1 deceased) and a younger sister. My parents were Jack Walker Rayburn and Betty Jean Matheson. My Moore line comes from my father's side. His grandmother on his mother's side was Sophia Augusta Moore, daughter of William Greenberry Moore and Minerva Price. The farthest I go back is to William Greenberry Moore born 1821 in Blount County, Alabama. I haven't located his parents; but his father could have been Joseph Moore or William Moore. William Greenberry Moore had a brother named Thomas C. Moore who moved to Parker County, TX with him. William Greenberry Moore married Minerva Price in White County, Arkansas in 1841. Several of their children were born in White County, Arkansas prior to moving to Parker County, Texas. William Greenberry Moore married a second time after the death of Minerva in 1864. He fathered about 23 children between the two wives. William Greenberry Moore died in Parker County, Texas in 1900. My great grandmother, Sophia Augusta Moore, was born in Parker County TX in 1858. She married Richard Quimby Walker in 1874 in Parker County. They moved to Hardscrabble, Colorado (Custer County) in the early 1880s. Another family from Parker County, TX moved there too, approximately about the same time. Delaney Sweeney Rayburn and Martha Jane Myers Rayburn lived in Parker County, TX for only a short time. My grandfather, George Washington Rayburn was born there in 1879. After the two families moved to Colorado their children grew up together and Mary Augusta Walker and George Washington Rayburn married in 1899. My grandparents had 3 children, and the youngest was my Dad, Jack Walker Rayburn. This is my Moore line: William Greenberry Moore 1821-1900 +Minerva Price 1825-1864 1. We have ten children (nine of them boys) from seventeen years to seventeen months. I have been doing family history work for several years. (It is a good way to spend time while housebound!) I have two Moore lines - neither of them very helpful to others. I have not finished reading all of the back issues; but I am sure both of these lines tie into someone because I have seen same locations and circumstances. First one- Abner Moore md. Other Moore line: two sisters of undetermined tribe ( either Cherokee of Chickasaw) were born in either AL or TN and md. John J. Turner. The second was Mary A. Moore. The second child (first wife) was born in MS. From the third child through the eighth ( my gg grandfather) they were all born in Fulton Co. AR. Mary A. was born in 1830 - her sister would have been born before most likely since the first child was born in abt 1845 ( the second 1847) Mary A. died before 1875 because she did not survive her husband who was murdered in that year. Some of the children were md. in TX and later moved to OK (where John J. lived when murdered).Help! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - MARTHA MOHNEY SCHNECK (chneck@vnet.net) *****I am researching the following line (children will appear in brackets): David Moore married Polly Collier on 6 May 1784 in CT (Richard, Benjamin, Polly, Joseph, Delight, Thomas Collier, Harriet, Elizabeth Collier, Fanny, David J.) Helen Rawls Riles, she started a family history and included a copy of the Moore Bible starting in 1787 with the marriage of Joseph V. Moore and Martha Matilda Goss. I work on White, Lindsey, Moore and many other names which flow in and out of the families. I have met many of the Moore's, and they are really fine people and I am proud to be included in their family. I have tried to find the Warren connection, but have yet to find why the name appears in the Lindsey/Linsey line-it was My GGF John Warren Lindsey name-out of Dooly county, GA. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ROBIN HELMAN (gfarobin@lse.fullfeed.com) *****I am seeking information on the following family. This trip I'm sending my husband's Moore line. It's mixed up and uncertain. From three sources, I've received information on his Moores. Each one added a name of two to the children I already had listed. The total is now up to 15 children! I haven't had a chance yet to verify them, but will include them all in case someone recognizes one. I also received, just 2 days ago, word from another researcher that he thought John Samuel's grandparents were incorrectly identified. Their names I had received from a cousin of my husband's in Indiana. So this line is a confused one at best. It'll take a while to straighten it out. In the meantime, I'll throw it out and hope someone can shed some light on it. John Samuel Davis, son of Archibald & Elizabeth McBride Davis, md. c1824, Mary (Polly) Moore (b. 1802, N.C.). Their Ch: 1. Elizabeth (b. 26 Nov 1826, Jackson Co, IN. 2. Susan (b. 1827, Grassy Fork, Jackson, IN). 3. Mary )Polly) (b. c1830, IN) md. Franklin Gibson (physician, b. I've also received info on children names Summerfield (b. IN), Sarah, and female child. That's 15. Is there anyone out there who can shed some light on this poor family? I'll certainly do some research on it when I have more time; my own line keeps me quite busy right now. I wish I could get someone on my husband's side to help. Certainly would make things easier. We live in the mountains outside Bakersfield, CA. We love it here. It's cooler, prettier, and quieter. We even get a bit of snow in winter. We moved up here when our last child went away to college, 19 years ago. The only thing I get frustrated with is our phone line. It acts up and kicks me off-line when I'm on the net. They've tried to fix it and it is better, but not much! I'll be hoping for someone to recognize these poor unfortunate people.
