His grandson, William, stated in his Revolutionary war pension application that he was born 9 miles from Dover, DE. I have very little information on the Maryland Moores and would be interested in comparing notes with those doing Moore research in MD and DE in the early 1700s. Edward Moore (1736/7-1792) moved from MD to an area near the border between Rowan and Surry Counties., NC. There his son William (1758-1844) served in the militia under command of his brother-in-law, Captain Jacob Ferree. The Moores moved to Lincoln Co, KY shortly after the war. I would like to work with others doing research in the Kent-Queen Annes Co, MD and Surry-Yadkin-Rowan Co, NC and Lincoln Co, KY areas so we can distinguish between this line and others with the same names, and better document migration of this Moore family. It has been a very enjoyable hobby, and it has been instrumental in leading me into a new career--that of librarian. I am currently a library science student (part time), and I hope to finish my graduate degree in two years. I am married, and I have two sons, the younger of which will be a junior in high school next year. My interest in the Moore family has come only recently. I had previously believed that one of my ancestors, Thomas Burgess Gill, was the son of John Gill and his second wife. However, I now believe that he was the son of John Gill and his first wife, Martha Moore (More) of Northumberland Co., VA who were married in 1804. I have found a Martha Moore who was the daughter of Thomas and Nancy Moore also of Northumberland Co. He is my g.g.g.g.g grandfather. Let me tell you what I do know. John Moore b abt 1717, died 20 May 1801 at the age of 84 yrs. John moved to Redstone Twp. , Fayette Co. PA. ca 1769 . From where I do not know , but I believe it was VA(?). He owned a farm and had many children. His wife (or consort which it says on her tombstone) was Margaret Colvin b May 1770 d 12 Nov 1828. Capt. John Moore served for his country during the Revolutionary War and served in the campagns against the Indians a common service for frontiersmen. This is where he acquired the rank of Captain. Most refrences I have found of him use the Capt. rank even in civilian matters. John and Margaret had 8 children that I know of: 1) George b1773; 2) John b 1775; 3) Aaron b 7 Jul 1777; 4) Rezin b 1779; 5) Ezekiel b 1781; 6) William b 1783; 7) Rachael b 1785; 8) Hannah b 1787 Aaron married Mary Haney , Rezin married Mary Landers and had 10 children, William never married. I follow Aaron's line, as follows: Capt. John > Aaron > William A. > Sarah Ellen. Sarah married David Leroy Coffman, my grandmother's side of the family I have a copy of all the headstones located in the Capt. John Moore Cemetery it has many Moores and a few members of the Gadd , Hess , Christopher and Large families. His daughter Rosanna Moore married John Vinnedge; their daughter Jane Vinnedge married Aaron Shrader; their daughter Mary Arabella Shrader, b. abt. 1832, married John Clark Warren in Milton Indiana and produced my grandfather Charles Shrader Warren, b. abt 1870. My father is William Oliver Warren. My husband and I live in Estes Park, Colorado, a resort town northwest of Denver, 7600 feet or so in altitude. We retired about 20 years sooner than planned due to a car accident in 1988. Our three children are grown; the youngest, age 21, joined the Marines a year ago and we discovered the "empty nest" syndrome. I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. My husband was born in Lithuania. We both play a lot of cards, do a lot of walking, and I do some community volunteer work. This little genealogy hobby has become quite time consuming, but fascinating. I have to go up and down a mountain to get to a Family History Center, and the Denver library is about a two hour drive from here, so most of my research is done by computer and by mail. I have been awed by the helpfulness of total strangers in doing research for me in far away libraries. GRISSOM (KGris73296) *****My Great Grandmother was Mary Sheldon Moore, born Feb. 25, 1860, in Cave Springs, Floyd Co, Ga., died Dec 19, 1957, in Alvord, Wise Co., Tx. She married James William Grissom about 1881 in Tippah Co., Miss. She had six boys, one being my Granddad. James was born in Tippah Co., and they moved to Texas about 1895. All I have on him is that he was married November 4th 1788 to Alice Born or Bourne. He moved his family to St. Charles County, Missouri in 1810. The children of Zacariah and Alice are: James D., Elsie , Caroline, Cener (or Creer), Marie, Thomas, Harriett and Elizabeth. Cener Moore married John Wilson Boone in Charles Co., Mo. I have knowledge that Zacariah was either a Private or Major in the Revolutionary War in a regiment from Maryland. I do not know which county he was from but possibly Prince Georges.
