In the name of God Amen.  I SACK PENNINGTON of the County of
Brunswick being sick and weak of body but of sound mind and
memory thanks be to God for the same but calling to mind the
uncertainty of human life do nominate and appoint this my
last will in form and manner as followeth.  First I
recommend my soul to Almighty God and my body to the earth
to be buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter
named as to what world goods it hath pleased God to bless me
with I dispose of in the following manner (to wit

Item    my will and desire is that my negro man Bob & my crop
of Tobacco be sold to the best advantage by my Ecrs the
money arising therefrom to be applied towards paying my
debts the overplus if any to be delivered to my wife for the
support of her & my children.

Item    I give and bequeath to my brother-in-law JOHN BUGG  all
the land I own on the south side of Taylors Creek adjoining
the lines of WILLIAM Finch, David & Merideth Moss and
himself containing by estimation Twenty-five acres be the
same more or less to him and his heirs forever.

Item    I give and bequeath to my Niece MARY WALKER one hundred
and thirty eight acres of land lying in the County of
Mecklenburg on both sides of Aucurts(?) Creek adjoining the
lands of John Hall, John Harris George Malone and Robert
Johnson to her and her heirs forever.  The remainder part of
the said tract of land that I own to be sold & the money
applied to the support of my wife and children.

Item    I give and bequeath to my daughter LUCY three negroes
(to wit James, Cain, and Dilcey to her and her heirs
forever.  Also, I give to my said Daughter the saddle and
bridle that is called her

Item    I give and bequeath to my son WILLIAM four negroes (to
wit Simon, Deck, Nat & Lyda my larger Still and all
conviences thereto belonging my Silver watch Gun and Shot
bags my best saddle, and bridle my Carpenters & Copper tools
to him and his heirs forever.

Item    I give and bequeath to my daughter MARY three negroes
(to wit) Tom, Bristen, Ellick & Edith to her and her heirs
forever.

Item    I leave to my beloved wife ANNA the use of two negroes
and their increase from this date (to wit) Ned and Amey also
one half the tract of land I own in Medklenburg ajoining
Thomas Benford, Jesse Osling & others one feather bed &
furniture, One Pine chest & her riding saddle, for and
during her natural life after her death I give and bequeath
the said land to my son WILLIAM & his heirs forever and the
other part of that legacy to be equally divided as can be
without selling any of the negroes amongst my three children
(to wit) LUCY, WILLIAM & MARY to them and their heirs
forever.

Item    I leave to my beloved wife ANNA the use of the Chamber
in my house also the smoakhouse Dairy and half my young
Orchard on the road and all the lands I own in the tract I
now live on, that ----(sitheth) in Brunswick County on the
south side of the road for and during her widowhood or death
which ever circumstance may first happen, then I give and
bequeath the said legacy to my son WILLIAM and his heirs
forever.

Item    my will and desire is that my wife should have the
liberty of tending any part of the plantation I now live on
until my son WILLIAM arrive to the age of twenty one years
or married.

Item    I give and bequeath to my won WILLIAM all the rest and
residence of my lands that I now own to him and his heirs
forever.

Item    all the rest of my negroes not before mentioned and the
residue of my Other estate I leave the use of to my beloved
wife during her widowhood but after her marriage or death
which ever Circumstances may first happen my will and desire
is that the hole of that Legacy be divided amongst  my three
children (to wit) LUCY, WILLIAM AND MARY to them and their
heirs forever.  But if my wife should think proper to give
to either of my Children any part of the live stock or
household furniture not exceeding the third part the gift
shall stand good and that child to be accountable to the
others for the value thereof.  Lastly I appoint LUCAS GEE,
my beloved wife ANNA PENNINGTON and my son WILLIAM executors
of this my last will and Testament revoking and disannuling
all former wills by me made In witness whereof I have here
set my hand and seal this Twenty ninth day of September one
thousand seven hundred and Eighty Eight.

This last will and Testament of SACK PENNINGTON decd was
proved by the Oaths of WILLIAM Mitchell and Asa Gresham
witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the
motion of LUCAS GEE and WILLIAM PENNINGTON the Executors
therein named they having made oath thereto and together
with George Malone, WILLIAM Gee and WILLIAM Mitchell their
securitys entered into and acknowledged a bond in the
penalty of thousand pounds with condition as the law directs
Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof
in due form liberty being reserved for the Executrix therein
named to join in the said probate when she thinks proper.
