Some people think that Phoenix groundwater has been contaminated by toxic materials from one or more industrial corporations. To investigate this possibility, several holes have been drilled in various locations within a portion of downtown Phoenix. These holes are called wells. This name is not meant to imply a water well. The term "well" is used for any type of hole that provided information for this project.
If contaminants were indeed allowed to flow into the groundwater supply, the movement of the contaminant plume(s) may be influenced by any geological structures that exist underground. For example, contaminants may flow more readily through porous sediment than through dense bedrock.
My motivation for this project was to see if I could create an image of bedrock topography using depth-to-bedrock data from these wells. If so, can we see shapes below the surface that might affect contaminant flow?
