Eric Hessler
Graduate student
Psychology
Arizona State University

Eric is a doctoral student in the Cognition, Action, and Perception program at Arizona State University. He received his B.S. in Psychology and B.A. in Biology from Pacific Lutheran University in 2004, and his M.A. in Psychology from Arizona State University in 2006. Eric specializes in the application of dynamical systems analyses to motor control and other psychological topics. Using dynamics allows for the quantification of complex patterns of change over time, which makes the approach attractive across a number of diverse applications. In much of his research, Eric has examined the role of augmented feedback in motor-respiratory coordination through the use of a dynamical model called the sine circle map. Eric received two awards for that research from the Arizona State University Graduate College in 2007 and 2009. He has also played an active role in collaborative research on the dynamics of team coordination, daily variation in arthritis patient’s pain predictions, and gender development in preschoolers. In his dissertation research, Eric is examining relative phase dynamics in motor-respiratory coordination through the application of motion equations.

Jamie Gorman
Post Doctoral student Psychology,
Arizona State University

Jamie is a post doc at Arizona State University and the Cognitive Engineering Research Institute in Mesa, AZ. He received the PhD in Cognitive Psychology from New Mexico State University in 2006. Dr. Gorman’s research focuses broadly on “interactivity” between people, people and society, people and technology; in general, people and their environment. Recent work includes the application of nonlinear dynamics to understanding team coordination and team collaboration and the development of methods for real-time dynamical systems analysis. Applications of his work include the development of team training interventions and real-time dynamic feedback.

Justin Fine
Doctoral student Psychology,
Arizona State University.

Justin is a doctoral student in the Cognition, Action, and Perception program at Arizona State University. He received his bachelor¹s degree in Psychology from University of Cincinnati in 2009 and joined our program that fall semester. Justin is interested in inter-person coordination, asking whether the same dynamics apply to coordination both within a person and between people.
