The picture above shows one of the peaks (Batian, 5190m) of Mount Kenya. It was made standing ontop of Point Lenana (4986m) where Jo and I went up to in September, 2001. -what a great experience! Hi, my name is Olaf Zielke and this is my site. I'm a PhD-candidate at theSchool of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE) at Arizona State University, Tempe. I'm in the Active tectonics research group of Prof. Ramon Arrowsmith. He and I are working on numerical earthquake simulations, concentrating on continental strike-slip faults (such as the San Andreas Fault, CA). We investigate the effects of elastic interaction, fault roughness, structural complexity, and frictional parameters on the activity and character of seismicity of individual faults. The goal of this effort is to better understand how fault systems as a whole work and by that help to improve earthquake prediction/forecast and seismic hazard assessment for seismically active regions. |
