Paul R. Perkes : Projects : Windows 2000 Active Directory : Obtaining an ASURITE ID

Obtaining an ASURITE ID

INTRODUCTION

All computer users in the Center for Solid State Science (CSSS) will be required to obtain an ASURITE ID. An ASURITE ID is an account that will allow you access and manage a variety of campus computing resources including:

  • ASU Windows 2000 Active Directory
  • ASURITE Windows Login
  • Border VPN access
  • Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP)
  • Student E-Mail Service (Emma/Pine)
  • AFS Fileservice (network file space)
  • General Computing (AFS access in sites, Unix cluster access)
  • ASURITE Primary Login (Kerberos)
  • ASU Main Campus Exchange (Outlook Email)
  • PPP (Faculty/Staff)
  • Research/Stats Unix Clusters
  • Personal Webpage Hosting.

PURPOSE

Why do I need to obtain an ASURITE ID?

If you expect to use any computing systems in the Center for Solid State Science (CSSS) including the computers in PSB-152 and the on-line acquisition systems attached to any of the microscopes in the future, you will need an ASURITE ID. This will allow the computing support staff to use Windows 2000 Active Directory to provide centralized management of computer accounts, computer systems and computing resources.

PROCEDURE

How do I know if I already have an ASURITE account?
How do I obtain an ASURITE account?

  1. Point an on-campus web browser to http://www.asu.edu/selfsub
  2. Enter your ASU ID number.
    1. If you are asked for your ASURITE password then you already have an ASURITE ID. Enter your password or follow the on-screen instructions to find out what your password is. Once you are logged in, your ASURITE ID will be listed as your "your PRIMARY user ID". Please send me an e-mail letting me know what your ASURITE ID is. Don't send me your password, I don't need it, I don't want it.
    2. If you don't already have an ASURITE ID you will be allowed to create one. Follow the on-screen instructions. You can pick your own ID as long as it is not taken by anyone else. Once you have completed this process please send me an e-mail letting me know what your ASURITE ID is. Don't send me your password, I don't need it, I don't want it.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. It is for YOUR benefit.
