Paul R. Perkes joined the Center for Solid State Science at Arizona State University in 1987 as a Systems Applications Analyst. He first worked for ASU in 1981 for the Department of Planetary Geology as a FORTRAN programmer for the NASA Viking and Voyager projects. Mr. Perkes earned his Bachelors of Science in Physics with an emphasis in numerical methods in 1989 from Arizona State University.

Mr. Perkes has over 20 years experience in image processing, data analysis and computer systems management. He has had the opportunity to work with many world-renowned scientists including Dr. Michael C. Malin (Malin Space Science Systems), Dr. Phil Christensen (ASU), Regents Professor John Cowley (ASU), Regents Professor John C. Spence (ASU), and Regents Professor David J. Smith (ASU), his current supervisor.

Mr. Perkes' volunteer activities include serving as a Cub Scout den leader for a local Boy Scouts of America pack and working fundraising auctions for both the Northern Arizona University's Skyjacks and Christ Lutheran School. He lives in the Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix with his stepson Gregory and his wife Kathy D. Wigal, who also works for ASU as a Lecturer in Accounting for the School of Accountancy and Information Management.
