ENG 556 Theories of Literacy

Weekly Forum

Each week, after the Wednesday evening class, there will be an online forum for brief discussions and observations on some selected item do to with literacy. All of the items will be accessible via the internet.

The forum will be open from Wednesday night to Sunday at noon.

The link to the site will be posted on this page and on the forum. Go to the site, check it out and then post observations, discussions, responses, rants & raves on the ENG 556 forum for that week.

Note that postings are intended to be brief, informal, and unlike these instructions, even conversational.

This week's Forum (October 29-Nov2)

Go to the Environmental Literacy Council website at http://enviroliteracy.org/.

Browse the site a bit to see what this organization is about. Take a look at their definition of "environmental literacy" http://enviroliteracy.org/subcategory.php/1.html

Then skim a short article, "Impact of Environmental Education Activities on Environmental Literacy of Learners" published by the Environmental Education and Training Partnership. http://eelink.net/eetap/info93.PDF

If you are feeling extra ambitious, so might also look at the Green Literacy site http://www.greenliteracy.org/what_is_green_literacy.php and the Campaign for Environmental Literacy http://www.fundee.org/facts/envlit/whatisenvlit.htm

or just have some fun with an environmental literacy quiz: http://www.jbgreenteam.org/TEST/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/REC-Environmental-Literacy-Test1.pdf How green are you?

Post your ideas and observations concerning citizen action and environmental/green literacy to the forum.
