Panel Bios

Ron Carlson is the author of five books of fiction, most recently the story collection The Hotel Eden. He is professor of English and Creative Writing at A.S.U. and for six years he hosted Books & Co., KAET's prizewinning author interview program. His next book At the Jim Bridger will be published in May, 2002.

Rhonda McDonnell has taught high school for 13 years, currently focusing on honors students and composition courses. She also teaches composition at the university level. She earned an undergraduate minor in journalism and coached the high school student newspaper staff for several years. She earned an MA in Literature with a critical feminist project. She is currently working towards a Ph.D. Her dissertation will be on Walker Percy, with a particular emphasis on his philosophy, based on semiotic theory. Rhonda is a native Arizonan with interests in film and music criticism, plus decorating.

Sharon Crowley is Professor of English and Co-Director of the PhD in Rhetoric, Composition, and Linguistics at Arizona State University.

Laurie Notaro has been a columnist in the Phoenix area for ten years and began writing for The State Press while she was a journalism student at ASU. She is currently a columnist for azcentral.com and The Arizona Republic. Her first book, The Idiot Girls' Action Adventure Club was published in January.

Elizabeth Pearce is a freelance writer specializing in online education. She writes for a range of education and technology projects including course design, content development, learning tools and market research, strategy and communication materials.

Joaquin Alvarado is an Advanced Media Specialist for the ASU Hispanic Research Center. He is a writer, filmmaker, teacher and researcher, not necessarily in that order. He is currently working on producing next generation narratives.
