Call for Proposals

Theme: Rhetorics and Literacies in Motion

Keynote Speaker: Thomas Rickert, Purdue University

October 30-31, 2015
Arizona State University
Tempe, AZ

For what is mind but motion in the intellectual sphere? (Oscar Wilde)

Social, geographic, economic, disciplinary, cultural, and ecological realms (to name but a few) are in flux, influenced and shaped by events in the global arena from geopolitics and insurgencies to climate change and epidemics. More locally and regionally, such issues as institutional dependence on contingent educators, economic cutbacks, and shifts in education policies and practices impact on the professional and social futures of students and faculty. This year’s theme invites proposals on kinēsis in theories and practices of rhetoric and literacy, that is, the movement and activities of knowledge making, knowledge distribution, and knowledge disruption. We welcome proposals that draw on metaphors that will inspire and generate discussion as we share current research in rhetoric and literacy studies in contexts of uncertainty: flow, entropy, motivation, transformation, transition, and others that invite senses of shift and movement.
Possible inquiries may include but are not limited to the following:
