Research Projects Ongoing
  • The mechanism of water splitting in PS II investigated by X-ray crystallography and spectroscopy (PI)
Principle investigator: P. Fromme, funded by the NIH Period 07/01/2004 to 06/30/2009
This grant provides support for the study of the structure and function of Photosystem II, the enzyme that produces all oxygen in the atmosphere. The research involves the crystallization, structure determination and X-ray structure analysis as well as EPR studies on the functional states of the water splitting system of PS II.
  • Structure and function of supercomplexes of Photosystem I with its peripheral antenna system in green algae and cyanobacteria (PI)
Principle investigator: P. Fromme, funded by the NSF Period 12/01/2004 to 11/30/2009
This grant provides support for the crystallization and structural and functional investigations on the green algae and cyanobacterial PS I in complex with their external antenna systems: the LHC I in green algae and the IsiA antenna in cyanobacteria
  • Interaction of Photosystem I with its natural electron acceptor ferredoxin: a model system for protein recognition and inter-protein electron transfer
Principle investigator: P. Fromme, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture Period 08/15/2003 to 08/14/2006
This grant provides support for the study of the interaction of Photosystem I with ferredoxin. The research involves the improvement of the PS I-ferredoxin crystals, X-ray structure analysis as well as EPR spectroscopic investigations on the complex
