Raj about himself
|
Raj is a 25 year old young man exploring his life and still figuring out what he wants to do with it. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Arizona State University. Raj is crazy about technology. New softwares, discoveries about the atoms, theories about how the universe originated, web 2.0 sites, algorithms that solve real-life problems, even if they are small, will excite him. He plays cricket and badminton, he works out about 4 times a week in the gym, he loves chatting and roaming with friends, he spends more than 1 hour every day on phone and a lot of money on calling cards to keep in touch with all his friends and family in India, loves to take a long drive, to walk to in the rain, to ride a motorcycle and listen to music, watch movies (especially true stories), and not to mention, FOOD. He is a regular slashdotter, read news at , TechCrunch, PluGGd.in, cricinfo and spend some time every week at stumbleupon video, usually in the Science/Tech channel. Now for a little bit of his history, Raj was
born in a land far far away (about half way
across the globe), in the beautiful country of India, in the city of Coimbatore,
on October 15, 1984. He is proud to have born on the same day as one of
the people he admires most, Dr. Abdul Kalam [wiki]. |
His mom and dad remember him as a naughty and curious child from childhood. He had his formal education up to high school in the most prestigious private school in the district, Stanes Higher Secondary School. His parents firmly believed in developing a well-rounded personality with good academic education and interests in other arenas as well, and they came to the conclusion that only this school delivered this promise. Raj developed interest in a variety of fields, including sports and boy scouts. He enjoyed playing cricket and badminton right from his young ages and still does. He was a member of Boy Scouts. He joined Scouts with the only intension of having fun in the camps with his friends, but later on got involved in its activities. He loves his school and cherishes the moments he spent in this school. Even today, when he walks through the campus, images of the good times he had flash in his mind, which even brought out a few drops of tears once.
Raj loved physics, math and biology in his lower high (??) school. His parents wanted him to go to medical college and become a doctor, but he had an aversion towards blood and refused to pursue a medical career. Raj's elder brother had his first computer language course (BASIC language) when Raj was in fourth grade. He took him to the computer lab with 10 pieces of the magnificent beasts with the CRT black and white displays and enormous 8 MB RAM (mouse?? whats a mouse????) to show a program which he wrote, PRINT HIS NAME 100 TIMES. Raj wowed at the display when it was filled with his name. Raj stared at the computer for a minute and earnestly asked how the computer knew his name. His curiosity for computers thus began.
Raj pursued his Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering (a close cousin of Computer Engineering). During the course of this four year program, he also consistently ranked in the top 5. He also played a lead role in organizing National Level Technical Symposium as well as Industrial visit for a class of 67. After completing his Bachelors, he decided he wanted to do Masters in Computer Science in the more flexible education system, in the United States. He chose Arizona State University as his destination for his Masters in Computer Science.
Raj worked under the guidance of Dr. Rida Bazzi, Professor, School of Computing and Informatics, Arizona State University for his Masters Thesis. He worked on optomizing an algorithm to update schemas of databases without bringing the databases offline. For more information about his thesis, please check the Portfolio web page.
