I was born in England, and grew up in Canada and received my MA from the University of Victoria, British Columbia. I returned to England where I studied for my DPhil at the University of York. I then spent three years as a Research Fellow at St Anne's College, Oxford, before returning to York to teach for a year. I came to ASU in 1998.
My areas of specialization are medieval women visionaries, hagiography, and late-fourteenth century English literature.
